Haha got ya, a quick update, we all worked as a group to finish out first day homework. Today we had a safety presentation, watched safe 7 video, and started to learn "The Roehl way". Then had lunch. The steak burrito is AWESOME! After lunch we hit the pre trip pretty hard, and now driving around the yard. My trainers name is Joe; he seems to be a pretty cool guy, and taught me a new way to downshift and bump shift. All in all it seems to ok. I am having fun, but I want to be at the top of my game and not get sent home. -

I am not stresssing over it, but it is in the back of my mind. That being said I seem to be struggling with their trip planning for some reason. I plan on hitting it hard tomorrow and try to figure out where my weakness is ( I am guessing map reading--thanks technology) and try to iron that out. I have been told I have to take a written test to get out of phase 1 and I am guessing this will be on it, so I do not want to delay my progress; I want one of those new Prostars to take home with my first solo load.

dont worry about going home. roehl has apready spent alot of money on you to send you home. just do a littpe better every day. my pre trip was horrible but i asked lots of questions. i think they see someone wanting to learn and even if they dont no everything see they are trying. as for trip planning i do about 90 percent on my phone with google maps and google navigation. i love the satelite view and road view. for my training it was one of those things in life when it was done with i looked back and said y was i even worried.

Map reading is a simple concept. Only thing I couldn't stand was finding the distance inbetween location a and location b.... It's not like you will have to do that with Roehl on every single load. They even trip plan for you with their routing.
I think they just do it so if your qualcomm or truckpc has issues you know how to get around. Then again... I'd rather free ball it anyways because it's alot less stressful. For instance Roehl had me going to Florida with a load from WI. Their routing was I-80 over to I-65, then on I-65 abunch of back roads to get to I-24. Which was stupid... Yeah their routing probably had less miles, but just taking I-65 down to I-24 made more since... and it was faster. No stopping.. No climbing steep hills on back roads.. Less fuel burnt.
So I threw most of their routing out the window.
Then again I am also have a truck payment and fuel bill. But you can always call dispatch and see if they will modify the route for you. Make sure you know for sure what route you want to take and have positive's for taking that route. Not just that it's 25 miles longer but 20 minutes quicker. Need to talk your route up to them.Bigdubber Thanks this. -
Are u doing Roehl school or just orientation? I was never tested on pre trip, did my written test after the trainer, and then went over results of missed questions of written test questions missed? I did it in Ellenhood, j test out there consider yourself lucky. Maybe I'm missing something lol

It didn't sound promissing on Monday when I called in. Said they are about a week behind in the flat bed fleet with trainers...Fingers crossed!! Told me to make sure I sign up to be a trainer after 6 months LOL
