Hello everyone, still trying to decide which company...a week ago everything I read about Roehl seemed to good to be true, now I found this thread...Is it true that Roehl offers 7/3 7/4, 7/7 or 14/7 to all their drivers, newbees included? I live in Mobile AL, could I get in any of those programs, would they even recruit me from this area? Mileage and big checks are not as important to me as home time...I would prefer 7/7 or 14/7...

if i remember right they want you to be on 14/7 at least for a while, in the beginning you have so much to learn and being home half the time you lose a little. i think thats what they said. makes sense to me.
i know people in my training class were on that. you share a truck with another driver, or two with the 14/7. i like having my own truck, but if thats not important it seems like a great program -
Thanks for the reply swenjj...that makes perfect sense...not a bad program to me, I'm sure not having 'your' truck has its drawbacks, but to me the most important thing is home time...well this gives me a lot to go on, now I just have to find out if I qualify at all to drive for them, they sound like a good Company, so my hopes are high...

...thanks again swenjj and I will keep you posted on outcome...be safe...

truckerwannabee, the only issue i have had with roehl is a couple things on my hometime, but that wont be an issue with you. someone else is waiting for that truck, for me if i go home the truck is down and they make no money. i have been happy with my miles, happy with the help that i get from my manager. i love trucking, dont exactly like being away from home for 18 days but i need the money. if i didnt need money i would love the 7/7 . i wouldnt mind doing something like that in retirement down the road, way way down the road unless i stay out longer now

Here are my issues with slip seating. I keep my stuff clean. There is nothing more frustrating than sharing with a couple guys that aren't as clean as I. Remember you will have other men sitting around the truck in thier underwear or naked doing God knows what. Then you will lay and sleep on this same matress as you. Your food will be in there as well as everything else you bring. When they pee in a bottle does it drip on the floor? Does he scratch his butt and then touch the same things you will touch? Just a few of the issues...

Hello guys...and ladies if you're tuned in...a 'brief' about yours truly, which may clarify the 'whys' and 'hows'...I come from an engineering background, mechanical to be exact, 30+yrs., but w/ a 2 year degree which was common in the 70's, now after this economic meltdown at 52, companies are getting finnicky and are looking for a 4 year degree or someone no older than 38-40, 25 preferably, with a skirt as a bonus, with the latest schooling on unnecessary software which is only used for job qualification...grrrr...getting angry just thinking about it...anyhow, been laid off for 18 months exactly, lost my house, scooter, sold my car, driving a jalopy (but paid for) and living in the cheapest apartment I could find with nothing but power, water, phone and internet...at first it was really tough, coming from a career making 80+ g's/yr., I had the privilege and pleasure of working with some of the brightest engineering minds in the country, and also the mis-fortune of working with some of the worse and heartless managers in the world, I worked on and completed engineering projects that are only rivaled by the space program, yes it was tough, leaving all that behind...I have worked as a car salesman, as a courier and as dishwasher, no shame, just an empty feeling of injustice, after paying my dues and being a productive member of society, this is what is left of my American Dream.
But I don't 'die' that easily...now I'm used to it and I don't want to get or have ANYTHING that they can take back from me, including paying in a higher tax bracket, so, I am looking for a job that will pay my bills and that will not own my soul, been there done that...and no matter how good a company, they will not EVER own me except for the brief time I am 'clocked in'...having said that, yes it is disgusting thinking about someone else's filth, especially since I am the king of neat, organized and clean, but you know what, it is about the same as going out of town on a business trip for a multi mega million engineering firm and sleeping in an extended stay for weeks at a time while your kids are growing up without you...or the same as having to stick you nose in someone's rectum (brown nosing) just so you can keep a job long enough to find another, so you can give your kids a Christmas gift...then your wife leaves you, your kids grow up and the company lays you off and all you have to show for it is you, your bills, foreclosure and bankruptcy, standing there in desperation with a 5 o'clock shadow, scratching your head wondering what just happened...at least if I can manage to get into the 7/7 program I will only be away 26 weeks out of the year and now I will finally be able to enjoy a 6 month vacation like I 've always wanted to do and let the mega millionaires make their millions and Uncle Sam make their taxes off someone else...of course, ask me again when I am driving one of those nasty trucks and I'll be complaining like a school girl and cursing like a sailor... -
swenjj and etch5858 thanks a lot for your replies and info, guys, not doubting you at all, that schedule sounds very tempting...hey I really like this site, I wish I had found it earlier...hey, here's another question...I have a bad knee and I limp and squatting or going up steps without a grab rail or any grab 'prop' is very difficult, I read that Raehl is strict on their physical, other that the knee issue I am very healthy and do not have any blood pressure or diabetes or related problems...what do you think, my bad knee will keep me from qualifying or passing their physical?...Thanks for putting up with me...God Bless you and be particular on the tarmac...
