gave me directions to the consignee via qualcomm SENT IN FROM ANOTHER ROEHL DRIVER. the directions told me to take an exit that had at least 10 large bright signs that read NO TRUCKS THIS EXIT
when i did a flip to take the previous exit which was a business route, which ran into the route i needed to be on, it was non-exstant. turns out eastbound it takes u to bus-US220. westbound it takes you to schmuckvill maryland. same exit number.. only doesnt take you to the same place. figure that one out.
pulled into a mall parking lot next to a sign that read NO TRUCKS ALLOWED. veiwed my motor carrier atlas to find that NONE of the routes off 68 in md were designated truck routes. half of which were restricted, low clearance or otherwise. i called up dispatch. i was first yelled at for not calling the customer. which i had no cause to doubt directions sent in by another gorram friggin truck driver~! then when i requested assistance i was told 'uh i dunno' im on the side of the raod. surrounded by black ice due to weather condtions. in a town ive never even heard of. a town even the consigned hadnt heard of. surrounded by those 'if ur a trucker you arent allowed here' signs. no idea how to get back to the highway, no idea how to get to the consignee. and dispatch's response was 'uh i dont know.' not 'ill look it up' not 'let me ask someone' simply 'i dont know'. told the ######## if he wasnt gonna help i was gonna hang up on him. in my mind it seemed like the thing to say considering the fact i was backed into a corner, scared out of my mind that im gonna get 15 tickets for being where im not allowed. and the only ones that can help me are telling me 'tough luck'.
day after christmas i was informed my conduct was 'unprofessional, i was being terminated, and i wasnt allowed on ANY of roehl property.' including the tractor. maintiance bay. or the ground i stood on while i was told to go to hell and die. my truck was being unpacked as i spoke to dispatch. no question of 'what happend' or 'how did this occur' they straight up informed me that they did not care. end of statment. $400 for a rental car from chicago to pittsburgh. taking home whatever wasnt stolen from my rig. and i tell you right now had i known they stole the 12 dozen homemade christmas cookies sent to me by my own mother for the holidays.... i woulda left that terminal swingingi woulda still lost my cookies but i #### sure promise you someone woulda had a hell of a time eating them with no teeth.
3 things you NEVER do with me
1) NEVER screw with my friends, or sentimental items related to
2) NEVER screw with any of my electronics including CB, radio, or computer
3) NEVER EVER take ANY food products that belong to me unless you are willing to find out if there is life after death.
im 300 lbs. you dont #### with a fat guy's food. im a tech geek so you dont screw with my electronics. and im very protective of those i care for... dont you EVER hurt my freinds or trash gifts from them to me. -
You are the professional driver and are taught that even though Qualccom says go that way we still check to make sure they are not retricted routes. Why do you blame them for you getting lost. I learned in my first trip with Roehl to double checking my maps against Qualcom. I am sure you weren't very pleasant to your DSR also. What do you expect.

And its not "unprofessional" what the dispatcher did ???
-
maybe the dispatcher was a jerk, what does that have to do with the driver being professional or not. Just because someone is a idiot to the driver, the driver doesn't have to act that way back.

this isnt like i thought this through and said what i did. you do things you arent proud of when you are backed into a corner and surrounded by danger. the nicest dog in the world will bite you if you back him into a corner and threaten it. my livlihood, my record, and my paycheck, not to mention my life were all in serious jepordy here. black ice - restricted signs - possible fines if i get caught being where they told me to go. yeah. hold your head up high and say 'i dont mind getting tickets, fines, and loosing my job. just as long as im doing what im told'
and yes i know to check the routing they give. but the directions to the shipper and consignee are sent in by YOU! THE DRIVER. i have no cause to doubt another professional driver. who has been to this place. and knows where he is going.
also ek5858, let me ask you another question. you obviously have a problem with my reaction to my dispatcher and are siding with him, which leads me to beleive you too are a dispatcher. cuz i noticed this with roehl and others i would assume. drivers stick together and dispatchers do as well. and we have a common enemy: each other. that aside... i ask you this: you have a problem with what i said to dispatch... but you are COMPLETLY fine with the fact they stole my stuff when they fired me??? that doesnt bother you in the tiny bit? my cookies, hot dogs, tools, sentimenal items, and more were stolen from my very possison and the rest of my items handeld by someone else thats fine... but me telling someone 'im gonna hang up on you if u aint gonna help' thats the big problem here?
to quote a great driver: 'what the #### ... come back' -
OK Too-Tall. Sorry for the issue. I thought you were happy there. I guess you WERE. The dispatchers should be required to have a cdl and some first seat time. Just like a restaurant manager should know how to bake and wash dishes. Big company syndrome. The right way does not matter. Give them the mirror test - if the mirror fogs up hire them. Their driver training school was great though. And don't talk to me about payroll. Been out 3 weeks now and my pay is still screwed up. Pay is one thing they should really get right. I left Roehl and have no regrets and would not go back. But some of my buddies are still there and doing fine. Good luck to them.

I could be wrong but I believe I saw Too Tall bustin' the chops of a driver who was quitting not to long ago. That is ok really. I believe his story about getting turned around in MD. I know what customer he was headed to and I also am aware that place is hard to get to the first time. The directions he recieved are correct but they are very confusing. That being said if I overheard his phone call I would have told him what would have happened. Anything that is perceived to be a threat will be handled accordingly. If he had quit on nice terms he would have unloaded his own truck. It is a shame people are treated that way, it is a shame all dispatchers are not more pleasant and helpful(Read Macmarlins thread). I have said it before and will continue to do so, Roehl is not as great as they say they are, if they were we wouldn't have to hire so many people. Roehl is not all bad if they were I dang sure would not have stayed here for so long. Just because I make great money doesn't mean you will, and just because you quit doesn't mean you are always in the wrong. Fiannally Too Tall if somebody steals your stuff call the law. That is why they exsist. I am not three hundred pounds or very tall but your threats wouldn't even vaguely intimidate me, they just make me think you are well...pathetic. Grow up. If any of your tools or electronics are marked, call the police.

Man I feel for you. And the dispatcher you spoke to should have been kicked for being not helpful. I used to be a trucking dispatcher and I treated the drivers under my watch as if they were part of my family. I made sure I preloaded their trucks for them got them the best routing possible to avoid lengthy traffic time and if I got them lost I made darn sure I got more updated directions to get them unlost. I made sure that when service was due on their unit they had some home time when the sucker was in the shop. What I am saying here is it is the dispatchers job to make sure you get to your drop or pickup on time and safely with very minimal bull crap. You guys out there have enough to worry about then me or some other flunky making if more difficult for you. Sorry to hear that you got let go over someone else not doing their job!
