Coasting would be something I would find hard to do when the school make it a cardinal sin to coast. (Power on the drives at all time) however when you throw in a particular downhill of some miles with a good runout that is straight you can just take her out of gear and let gravity make you some time and fall down the mountain for a while.
I suppose automatics have evolved beyond the one we had in 2001. Maybe it is coasting. The left berm or divider is a valid thought. The truck has to go somewhere. Anywhere that does not have people.
At the end of the day Im happy no one else were hurt or killed besides the driver in difficulty. We have lost people in the past when I was a child. One was about 17 and a star basketball player. In about 1977 or so, he dropped right there in the court, they carried him out on a stretcher in full heart arrest however he was DOA on arrival. The school gym was named after him in the State school then for his memory.
You cannot depend on someone being alive 80 years and then die in the sleep. Some of us have what I would call time bombs inside our bodies for a variety of reasons and when it goes, that's all she wrote. Hopefully you are asleep in bed when it goes go. Medicine is not always very good at fixing it because essentially there was nothing wrong with you until the bomb inside the body detonates. If there was something that make you sick for whatever reason and the doctors accidentally discover the ticking bomb, they can fix it right quick as well.
Most of the people in my family stroke and drop where they are into the 80's and beyond. I already know that I wont want to be around that long. Be nothing in that for us. That time has since passed. Better to go out like a star that burned out early ahead of it's time.
My (sad) morning....
