The company I work for just hired a guy right out of school. No driving experience at all other than the time he spent training. He's making about a grand a week now. My point is there are companies who pay good wages that will hire a noob with a good attitude. You aren't going to find them on Craigslist or in truck stop publications. Life is what you make it! I know, I know.. It's a lot easier to do nothing than to do something!

KateL, get started! Best wishes!

Ignore them they have never been in your position and obviously cannot comprehend it
as above said ....some company's due that just let you go it happens and no reason to just go with a horrible company as you put just because of 1 rejection they will happen just brush it off and go to the next one.what do you consider a horrible company? which horrible company are you considering? and how long has it been since you were at school for the cdl? as that will matter what options you have..which company denied you? just curious...
good things will come around with positive thoughts attitude does matter in any industry if you sound all doom and gloom your chance of getting hired on are less likely i understand you easily feel that way but think of the positives when you get back on your feet. -
Hell yeah! And if she's got all her teeth it's a bonus and ya better cash in!

First off, I am not gay, I am all woman and I do not like the insinuation that I will meet chick at truck driving school. Anyone who needs to meet chicks who are nasty and giving away free things at truck stops are -- well, maybe ugly or without skills.
Okay thanks for those who "get" what I am saying.
I did not abandon my friend because I am a human being. I do not even understand why people do not understand this.
I may have just given up easily-- that is true, but since I had a child I had to find someone who would take care of her that I could trust.
What "society" says is that a person in my position must work 2 part time minimum wage jobs in order to make minimum living conditions. I feel that in the right hands, I can make quite a good living as long as I find someone I think will be good with the children. I would not have left them otherwise.
I think most of the people who post on sites like this just do not have any. -
Quit cry'n in yer beer and get a starter job, nobody starts at the top in any line of work that I know of.
I lost a job I had worked hard at for 24 years when the housing market crashed in 2009.
To make maters worse I was scheduled for surgery to repair work related nerve damage so I couldn't do anything for nearly a year.
Lost all my retirement savings staying afloat and was unemployed for a total of 16 months.
At 54 years of age I was starting all over, got my CDL and went OTR with a starter company, not what I wanted to do but it was all that was available.
I spent a year toughing it out and then landed a local gig home daily, but that job was 12 hrs a day 6:00pm to 6:00am, a miserable shift for a guy that had worked days all his life but I held on for a full year doing that.
Finally I made it to day shift and life started getting better, been at it for 8 months now.
I start at 7:00am and work 5 days a week most of the time, average is 12 hrs a day so life is pretty good now.
The school I went to never promised me anything other than a CDL if I did my part, they like most had a job placement program but no guarantees.
It's on you , just get out there and do what you have to, work hard and don't whine about it, you'll get there eventually like everyone else.
I went from job loss to building this new home in just 4 years by getting a CDL and busting my butt, it can be done even at my age.
