Its trucking. It happens. Only way to get into a better enviroment with better communication is find a smaller company , but that comes with a different set of problems.. trucking is nothing but problems all the time.. the more you know and learn about the industry the bigger the problems that come your way. It never ends... Thats why truck drivers look 72 when they are only pushing 40

Any DM worth their salt would authorize some layover pay if it is taking the shipper overnight to find a new receiver. Your kid needs to push for it.
MACK E-6, hope not dumb twucker, TripleSix and 3 others Thank this. -
Yea. Now the ordeal is, he got a load and started towards the receiver but he would have over 48 hours of layover so they told him to take it to the yard.
He then inquired about compensation and was told he didn't do anything!! What a slap in the face. He did half a shipment but was told he didn't do anything. -
He will get paid yhe miles to the shipper and yard what more does he want
bryan21384 Thanks this. -
The companies that hire out of FL are limited. He will keep running into the same issues at the large carriers that hire from FL. My advice would be to relocate to a better area if he’s planning to continue driving.
bryan21384 Thanks this. -
Because he asked his DM for compensation and the DM said what for, you didn't do anything!

I 2nd Indian River or even Bynum Trasnport..both out of Florida food grade tankers. All he's gotta do is get his tanker endorsement..There's also Leonards down there in Florida too..reefer.

If what you are saying is true the company isnt gonna pay him for the miles to pick up or drop the load at the yard. My gear wpuldve come outnof the truck then and there and the keys tossed on the dispatchers deskOpus, Speedy356 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.

If he gets paid by the mile he will get paid for the empty miles to the pickup and the loaded miles to the terminal.
That is all he did and that is all he will get paid for.
If he is asking for more, he is being unreasonable. If, and only if, he didn't get paid for the miles driven would he have a real complaint.
And, he did not do half a shipment. A small portion is picking up the load, a small portion is delivering the load, but the bulk of the load is the loaded miles driven.
Paid by the mile not the time, unless otherwise stated in the load assignment. (Other than detention time and such things.) -
Let this be a lesson for your son in piece meal pay. It sucks. When he gets a new job he needs to look for something that pays all the accessories. Giving away free time is for the birds, illegal aliens and non domicile drivers who will put up with it.
Gearjammin' Penguin, 074344 and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.
