I live in Lexington,KY and I'm going to a private CDL school, but I do have a pre hire with Swift and so far that's my first choice compared to some of the other pre hires I have. I really hope they let me go flatbed though.

Good luck Rug. Swift seems to be a good decision so far. Leaving Millington tomorrow evening to do my third week in Edwardsville. Then a three day orientation.

Completed the first 2 weeks of Swift academy at Millington TN. Will Be at Edwardsville KS next week for my third week road training. I was scheduled to take a bus Saturday afternoon, but I caught a ride and didn't have to take the bus. That made it possible to spend the night at my home instead of going straight to Edwardsville. Sunday is first day off in 2 weeks. Start driving on the streets of KC Monday morning. Hopefully, when I get to the motel room Sunday afternoon, I will have some time to write about the past 2 weeks at Millington.

Hey Rug, congrats on getting a start date. By my experience, orientation is only 2 days long. Normally, at the end of the second day, they either have a mentor there for us, put us back in the motel over night (you check out on the second morning) to catch a mentor the next day, or you go home and wait for one (or in the case of some guys, to get other business taken care of). Due to some kind of paperwork screw up, they were unable to get us all assigned on that second day, so we all got sent home, some of us on that day, some the next. I went home that night, but my bus broke down before it got to the bus station and was two hours late! I ended up sitting in the bus station for about 5 hours! I felt sorry for some of the riders who ended up missing their connections. Fortunately for me, I only had a 1 1/2 hour bus ride. My wife could have picked me up, but we couldn't have made that trip for the $20 bus ticket.

For more detail about orientation, see my thread about starting on Jan 19th.

    Good luck!

I hear ya. I had my share of bus problems and paperwork screw ups, but I am still hanging in there. 2 days of orientation sounds a lot better than 3.

I made it to my motel room earlier today, and I am now all nested in getting some rest and relaxation, after 2 very physically and mentally exhausting weeks. I have a room to myself, which seems like a luxury after sharing a room with 3 others for 2 weeks. It is nothing fancy but seems to be clean. I meet my trainer in the morning and get to do some driving. Life is good.
