Congrats AZS!
Being away from home is tough, I agree completely. The hardest part is over. You don't have to share someone else's truck anymore. Setting up your truck the way you want will create a comfortable home away from home.
Keep up the good work.AZS Thanks this. -
Well crap. Did tie down class today and after that was over went over to do the road test. Drive part went well then we got back and did the alley dock... clipped the other trailer as I was straightening out. Screwed up as I tried to bring it to the blindside to straighten and I was too close to the trailer on my left for that. Went back in did the written test and now have to take a close quarters class or something on Friday. Probably something I should have taken regardless if I got the back right or not.
Better to hit something now than later I suppose. There was no real visible damage to speak of luckily as I hit literally the last possible inch (corner) on the front of the parked trailer. -
Sorry to hear that....in the real world you are gonna be in some REALLY tight situations and some of the places you back into are gonna be very...very..close.

I feel for you.
I'll be gong back for some extra training on backing and turns ( I now tend to take them a bit too wide after going over a few curbs) on Thursday and Friday. I didn't hit anything backing, but was getting too close for the testers preference.
He also didn't like that I went into the right lane of a 4-lane divided road when I made a left turn, saying that it should have been into the left lane.
When I checked the DMV manual, it indicated that either lane was OK.
Oh well, I guess a couple days of practice and tips can't hurt. But I'll be glad to get into my own truck, for sure. -
How is Swift to train and work for as a newbie (greenhorn)? I already have my CDL A with Tanker and Hazmat.

Today was a better day, passed the tiedown tests and got assigned a truck. 2010 columbia with 75K miles. Did inventory on all the flatbed equipment and it has the new touch screen qualcomm as well. Got a truck but can't officially drive yet. How ya like them apples.

Glad to hear all went well for you. I am looking forward to getting out there one day. Be safe.

Alright all, last update to this thread. This story is over and now on to the real deal which I wont be recounting, partly because schmud has a great flatbed thread going already. Got released to solo today after doing the backing class, which would be a benefit to anyone I have to think. Learned a lot and am now way more comfortable in backing situations. Met my new DM, set my PTA to early next week while I get everything in order. All in all had a great experience with swift from start to finish and while I have nothing else to compare it too I would definitely recommend what I did experience. See you out there hopefully, truck 309905 is me.
Lilbit Thanks this.
