gps has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with 3g/4g. it's a stand alone chip and requires no internet to work.

like most people seem to think it does.

my asus tablet has NO internet chip. it's wifi only. and it functions just fine using copilot.

it's all in the app. use something like google nav and yes, internet is required. use a full fledged map and NO, internet is not required.

apparently you can't download mapfactor without paying for it AGAIN. i tried the tomtom maps it supplies and found it worthless for addresses. since the company is based out of europe.

osmand is only allowing 10 downloads. so how do you get all 48 states plus whatever else it needs to function?

I guess if you're looking for perfect you'll have to stick with what you've have, whatever that is. I've said before, I don't rely on GPS devices for exactness, prefer the MC Atlas.

I paid $7.99 for OsmAND+, a full version and I can download anytime. It takes about 3 hours to get all states and POI.Wiki's. Not bad at all, takes up about 4GB. The latest update is 11/22/13. My most recent TomTom updated the same date.

You're not going to find a perfect Truck product any time soon. They're all based on open source projects FROM EUROPE.

CoPilot and all the rest add their features and pass the cost on to you and still it's not perfect, so no thanks, and I'm not paying $149 for that.

My Venue 8 has one micro USB port, and supports adapters and whatnot if I want to use several different things.

I got an HP Bluetooth mini keyboard last night for if I need it, and it synced fine.

i've had copilot 3 years now. only had 1 problem and that was because i wanted a short cut. and there were no signs saying NOT a truck road. but 10 miles in. it wasn't.

as for the MC ATLAS. it's worthless in any given town.

It's good to share knowledge, and experience, about navigation and evolving technology.

My company doesn't allow any GPS including short and back hauling. But then again we're required to call in to new receivers and new shippers before arriving. There was an attempt at a proprietary program, lots of dollars spent and nothing is good enough yet. But they wouldn't keep trying if they didn't think it could be done.

As for the MC Atlas, I'm fond of it, continue to use it, for years and I can't recall thinking it was worthless :)

I have been using CoPilot Truck for just a few weeks now and so far so good. I have it running on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 WiFi version (not the 3g/4g version). I have to say it runs flawlessly with no lagging whatsoever. I have tried in the past few years Garmin Dezl and Rand McNally GPS devices and they don't even come close to how well CoPilot performs.

No internet required for GPS use. There is an option for local search in the POI menu that uses Google search that does require internet. For that I use my phone as a hotspot to connect to the internet on my tablet. I use this to find customer addresses and then CoPilot maps out a route for me.

I have a question. What is everyone using for mounting the tablet to the windshield?
