Oh by the way.. Forgot to tell yall. During my second week there was an accident right across from the school parking lot on the other side of the highway. Wanna guess which company it was? Yup..
So at the school, they have an open policy where they have people from other countries come here to go through the school and obtain their CDL so they can go back to their country and drive. One major one is people from Somalia.. Guys who can't speak or understand English if their lives depended on it. Well while a few of them were out driving on a truck and learning how to shift and highway drive, I guess the trainer on their truck figured it was ok to let one drive on the highway... Bad choice. The Somalian guy that was driving was only one exit and one turnaround to get back to the school, not even a half mile away, and he forgot what gear he was in.. So while he was shifting through gears figuring out which one he was in, he was turning the steering wheel at the same time. Before he even had a chance to turn back into his lane the truck skidded when he shifted and the WHOLE truck went over the concrete median. I'm talking about the tractor and the trailer! smh.. A whole 100ft, the guy was sliding on the middle of the highway. The trailer ended up un-coupling and flipped and left the tractor on the side the highway.
I had just got done taking my writing test at the DMV when it happened. Our bus driver got a picture of it and showed us lol. And when we were driving back to the school, the city had already took the trailer but the tractor was still there when we passed by the accident. It took the school a few days to send that guy back home to Somalia.. So don't worry, he's not on the road fellas. But I can't say that about the other Somalian guys that couldn't comprehend what accelerate or shift meant..
If I find a picture of it I'll show yall -
WOW ! And I am glad to here that your DAD is ok

So they finally picked me up this Tuesday. . The whole July 4th holiday messed up the dates but I'm on the road now. Haven't been tracking my hours but we've been rollin.. lol no pun intended. Already drove through 6 states in the east and south, just waiting on a load now in Kansas till 11am to take to Salt lake city.
I don't have any complaints now.. but I haven't got my first check yet either lol. Already told my trainer I'm doing my 9 months and leavin. He said good idea! Haha. No sense in leaving early, gonna get my experience and fulfill my commitment so I can be a good choice for a better company like Schneider when it's time.
I do like what we do though, couldn't be any happier doing it. I've always wanted to drive for a living and now I'm doing it. Feels good to know that we're the backbone to this country, without truckers people would be SOL!The Mariachi Thanks this. -
Hi TexasBoy: Can you tell me, what was it like to go from inexperienced to feeling like you've "got this!" If I'm a good driver, and coordinated, am I likely to get all the new stuff ok, like airbrakes, many many gears, also maneuvering such a huge vehicle?
ThanksTexasBoy Thanks this.
