Hello all. All these posts are really informative. I'm 48 and a newbie. All my brothers drive, I was holding out till my daughter graduated and went off to college. Now it's my time
From everything I read on these forums, it seems like Millis is a pretty good outfit. twistedsmoke, I am from Smyrna, TN so you would be perfect for this question. If I train in Cartersville, will my CDL be out of TN, or do I have to get it out of GA. And how does this work for pay? (I enjoy the TN no state tax). I look forward to hearing more training stories, and want to thank you all again for posting your experiences.
twistedsmoke Thanks this. -
The way it works is that before you show up for school, you have to have your permit. That means while waiting to leave for school, you go to your local dmv and take the test, getr the permit. Your permit will be in your home state. When you go out for OTR training with a driving trainer, he will have you call your dmv and schedule a road test. He will then get you there for your appointment and you will finish your cdl testing in your home state. Unless you are from Texas, in which case you will have your license before you leave school. I think it is that way for Wisconsin also...but I KNOW thats how it is in Texas.

Thanks stevenneill, I appreciate the info. So would I get my own DOT physical in TN before I came as well? Or does Millis have to sign off on Doctor who gives physical? Thanks again
-
Have to have before you can start. I just got my email packet for my April 14th start. They require you to fax your long form physical and a copy of your permit at least a week before your due to be there.
-
That is correct. All Millis is going to do is send you for a UA. you have to have the DOT physical before you go.

Talked to Raychel for the first time today and waiting on employer verification. Hoping to be in the April class!! Keeping my fingers crossed. At 51 years old...this is a BIG change for me...hoping all goes well

Thanks for all the info
