Update for those still Interested 4 years later.

I had a good time with Roehl. I had some complaints about equipment and lack of miles. Eventually, a year later I ended up leaving as a result of equipment. My truck never had any major engine issues that kept me off the the road. It was all comfort issues. My truck had an APU, which was sweet!!!, but it was always broke down. I know for most that is not a problem because you can always idle, but with Roehl, if your truck has an APU, then they set the computer so the truck can't idle longer than 5 minutes or so. Made it impossible to sleep in the summer.

The other thing that never worked was the a/c in the dash. That made the hot, muggy states torture. Bunk heater only worked sporadically in the winter. Eventually, I just got tired of asking for a different truck or permanent repairs. If it hadn't been for that truck, I would have stayed there a lot longer. The office folks were great, my dispatcher became a friend (we still talk today), and the guys in most of the shops were great (at least their personalities were.)

I did a non driving job until I hooked up with a fed ex Line haul contractor in 2013. Still there.

    OPUS 7 Thanks this.

It is something like that if you have previous driving experience and just need a refresher. It may have changed for newbies since I was there, but I doubt it. They are pretty big on safety and want you to know what you are doing. I learned a ton during my training. Well worth it.

Iceman, I wish I could remember. Seems like most of the time I was around 2200. I only broke 3000 a couple of times. Just remember that was in the thick of the economic downturn, it may be much better now. (Not that the economy is much better now, but the companies have had time to adjust).

Oh ok, thanks. I'm finishing school up next month and received a pre-hire letter from them. Still researching companies but they're pretty high up on my list right now.

I don't think you can go wrong with Roehl. You're not going to be bringing down major coin, so you probably won't stay forever, but their trainers go through a pretty thorough training program themselves, so there is really good chance you'll be trained right. I still drive the "Roehl way." It's a great place to start, just hope you get a good truck right out of the gate.

Hey danlindaetc, that would be awesome! I have also thought about doing the 14/7 schedule, but I'd like to be out running more often, bringing in more money. How did you get your CDL? I'm enrolled in Miller-Motte down here in Wilmington, not too far from your neck of the woods.
Does the 14/7 schedule include all 48 or is it regional?

    Thanks danlin.
