I'm starting CDL school Monday and already have a prehire from Swift. I'm psyched. I've read a lot of good things about the company and I see their trucks everywhere. For a newbie I think it'll be a good company to start with. Who knows, I might like it.

Thanks to dodger for starting this thread. It's nice to hear about a company in a positive light since so many people just ##### about the company and what they don't do.

just remember pagan, you get out of it whatever you want to. Positive in.....positive out. Get so many who go in 'negitive' then when the smallest thing goes 'wrong', they got a reason to complain. BOL.

After waiting for 3 days to get the truck back into the shop to find out what they screwed up on it, they finally got it in that wednesday morning. Got it back by 10 or 11. Turned out to be not really a problem after all. On the Freightliner Columbia (or at least on my 2009 model anyway), the fuel tanks sit forward (as compared to the Volvo's) with a door in the fairings right under the cab doors. If I bend over and look inside the drivers side fuel door, there is a yellow handled lever right over the fuel tank. Apparently this controls some kind of valve, possibly a shut off valve, and evidently, whoever worked on the truck for the bunk heater pulled this lever and partially shut the valve. So I'm back in action and the truck has been running just as well as ever and the bunk heater works great too. And as luck would have it, I got a message on the qc yesterday that I'm due for a b-service and I need to get that done asap.

I guess someone has felt bad for my shop downtime because they have been running my ##### off for the last week or so. I'm not complaining or anything, but it sure has a way of catching up to you. I actually ran out of hours before I was able to deliver my load on time. So I sent in a Mac22 to let them know I would be late. Shortly after that, I got a call from my DM saying I can't be late for this load. After a short discussion, she ended up having to repower my load and set me up for a 34. That's ok. I kinda needed the break. They got me set up on a night time driving schedule and I really hate running at night. There are some advantages to it, but the disadvantages are not worth it.

So I've spent the day here in central Virginia enjoying a pleasant day. I've got a preplan ready to pick up in the morning running up to New York, so I will be heading for bed soon.

    Be safe out there...

whats the average lenght of haul there, i know it can go from 100 to 900 miles or so, so look at a 4 week period and see if its about 400 to 600 miles per trip, thanks, and its good they did away with that work well test, thats only because theres to many drivers showing up to drive, less drivers, soon that 6 week training will be 3 weeks next year

    Hey Current Swifties,
I enjoy your posts. Just got my CDL and have been talking to a Swift recruiter for a while now. I am scheduled to go on 11-9-10, but there may be a wait for me to get a trainer. Does Swift pay me the $400 week starting from the day I show up for orientation or does it start once I am in a truck with a trainer? Any info is GREATLY appreciated. Also, from the Fontana, CA terminal what is the wait time (if any) for a trainer if anyone knows. TNX all.

wow, you hit the nail right on the head. I test on friday for my CDL and soon to start oientation on the 8th of nov. with swift. Reading to much crap about swift here. And was starting to question my decision with going to work for them. But you have changed my opinion on doubting myself. sounds like they helped you out and will be a good employer. Thank you for your posting. and keep us updated. Get well soon!

What kind of DOT physical is done at the school? The recruiter I'm talking with told me to get my DOT physical and my CDL permit at home. Did I just waste $95 getting the physical done here?
