That's great! One of the things I found lacking with Schneider, they don't go to great lengths to explain how you get paid.
There was a decent discussion on how TMC pays. There are a lot of misconceptions on what is better, mileage or percentage. They give you 7 weeks to make a decision, 5 after you go out with your trainer. You will have to track each load you take and figure out how much that load wouldve paid by starting mileage, or starting percentage. This way when you get back to DesMoines to test out, youll know what direction you are gonna go.
Glad to see you've come this far gunner. You won't be disjointed like everyone wise has started and you have experienced so far. Sounds like you're ready. Good luck. Chris is an awesome trainer. You got lucky with that.
I believe I've met Chris a couple times, he's definitely quality, and I believe you can read more on that in their newsletter or on their site. Keeping your expectations low is a smart way to do it. Sometimes you feel like you're working for nothing, but when you get the check it's usually a better feeling. If you're a hard worker, you'll be just fine. Just don't let the little stuff drag you down. You have unlimited resources here, and at Tmc. Make some friends around the company and be sure to have them on speed dial. It always made me feel better when my buddies were having bad days on line haul as well. It made it even better when doing specialized and having them have bad days on boats or line haul. It's an awesome job. I'd recommend it to anyone who is disciplined and works hard.
First load is off loaded, was a 6800lbs load of insulation going to Cleveland to put a new roof on a school. Already at the next shipper, it's a load of shingles going to Minneapolis. Trainer drove up to Cleveland, then had me back in, then I drove out and down tio the next shipper.guy seems pretty cool.
Owens Corning or certainteed? I know there's another shingle place by Cincinnati I just can't remember it. I love shingle loads, easy strap, and most of the time not horrible paying if they aren't going to menards.
This has always been a dream of mine, just wish the stars would aline so I can get it started. Would like trucking to become my second career, but wifey not to kean on the idea of being away from home again. She has already followed me through a 21yr Army career, with more years spent away from home, in far away lands, than years spent at home raising our children. My head tells me I need a job that lets me come home every night, but my heart wants to be in a truck rolling down road. I do see an angle I may be able to exploit, she might be coming around to the idea of driving herself, in which case it would be a team effort (which is awesome). Only down fall is I am pretty set on TMC, if she comes with me, so must our dogs and TMC has a no pet policy. Awww... decisions, decisions!!!!!!!
Owens corning was where we were, and were heading to Owens corning in Minneapolis. It's a load of pro edge, I guess they don't make them out there and must have them brought on
Yeah its the colors and batch numbers at each plant and also the types of shingles. I use to love the loads that I would grab from Owens in Chicago that go right to Minneapolis. I would grab the shingles on Friday, drive 30 minutes, be home, leave out around 2 or 3 Sunday and be in Minneapolis that night. Pull my straps and edge protectors and only have to wake up in the AM and pull into the yard for the off load. Then 9 out of 10 times you will reload right out of the Minneapolis yard to most of the time go to Iowa or Wisconsin. Great money on those loads! and super fast and easy!
