Thank you for this thread! I fly to Des Moines from Virginia on 9/1 to start Orientation 9/2. I'm nervousness as crap because I left a job of 6 1/2 years to become a truck driver and I was concerned about the orientation deal where you are not "officially hired" but it seems that if I just go do what I'm told and act professionally then I will be fine. Thanks again!

You are correct. Any of us can help you out throughout if you need anything. Study up on your general knowledge and all that. There are tests, and it does affect the orientation. And maybe practice lifting some heavier stuff if you're out of shape.

I'm good on the heavy lifting! The reason I chose flat bedding was to be more active. The biggest concern I have is making enough money to provide for the family and the inconsistency of the paycheck. I just left a law enforcement career and I appreciate a paramilitary structure with clearly outlined expectations, as petty as they may be... That's why I chose TMC.

You are very welcome eaglesfan. I started this thread hoping to assist others in making a decision towards TMC.

Well this first week id's winding down. I've been out here since Tuesday and have only hauled 2 loads. One load of sheet steel from ssab to Indiana, then a load of lumber from Indiana to Michigan. Well I got to the shipper for the lumber load and send they closed at 230pm, I didn't get the load assignment till 1pm, and it had an 86 mile bounce. Seems I got there just as everyone had left for the day. So I had to hang out over night. Got up at 7am, was loaded by 830, strapped, and tarps and on the road by 9am. 2 lumber tarps....that sucked. Got a message they needed me to pick up another driver in Indy and take him to his new truck that was at a towing place in Michigan that is 30 miles from my consignee.

Seems the guy is in Boat division and another Boat guy either got hurt or went on an extended medical leave and he left his truck parked at a towing company lot with his trailer attached. The guy I picked up was getting a 579, so they had him take the other guys truck since its gonna be some time before he comes back.
