I know tmc has dedicated routes all over that area, other than that I haven't got much else knowledge on that portion. I'm on line haul so I can be anywhere and even haul some of the dedicated freight when needed.

As far as making a decision, I honestly can't see you going wrong with tmc. The structure you had while in, is still there but it's more relaxed. They give you the equipment, the training, the support teams, and the boundaries. Then they give you the load abd tell you its up to you to get it there.

Well, I figure you have Melton, tmc, Paul, and some others in your area? Gunner is right. You're goig to have good freight around there. It'll be steel and roofing and lumber and Sheetrock and stuff like that. Typical general freight. Probably lowes loads a lot as well. You're going to get freight, there's no doubt about it, the rest would be on how you feel you should run. The money is there for the taking. Training is simple if you are respectable and a decent human being. Either company you pick is a crap shoot, but with tmc I feel that you can make more right away, and you get good training as well as nice rigs.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input. Since I've got a military retirement and my kids are grown, I'm good with a regional route, Just so I can be home on weekends. If I get a wild hair I'll do some long haul for a bit. And from everything I've gathered on all of my research, TMC is top notch and I've been really interested in them.

Scotty, you should look at TMCs home time policy on their website. I know I've not been here long enough, but every driver I spoke with prior to getting here said the same mantra, "I go home every week". Even my trainer went home every Friday. I don't have military retirement like I wanted to get. My division officer turned me against the idea of reenlisting, however from what I've seen, if TMC is what they claim, to not sick around long enough to get in on the ESOP system would be insane.

I'm here at my receiver tonight. Not due to get unloaded till in rather morning, but it insures I get my bonus points towards my snapshot, plus I can unload before I start my clock, that gives me all day tomorrow for drive time and loading time. Hoping this its a good week. My fleet manager and I had a solid talk about how I'm going to run. Basically keep me busy, but want to go home weekly for the time being. Eventually I'll start starting out for extended weekends. He says he can work with that. So won't know how he does me till out happens. Milskired, I hope your right about him.

I believe "standard policy" is 46 of 52 weekends home. But I know where you're at it could be every weekend. Same with gunner. They put that for the places where freight is more scarce.

I would imagine pretty good considering that is where TMC is based out of. SSAB is a big one for them, and for their specialized they have John Deere in Ankany. Personally, myself with my trainer, we never loaded out of Iowa, we always had a load going in, and a bounce out.

Well my load of wall board from Silver grove never happened. They gave me a load that was due in at Lowes Memphis at 5am tomorrow. Theres no way I wouldve made it in time. 8am maybe, but not 5am. So put me on a coil load coming out of Gallanta Steel in Ghent Ky. It went to Olympia Steel outside Cleveland. Was an easy run, but I hate coils. So much can go wrong with them and being top heavy, and centrally located in one spot on the trailer vs over the entire trailer. I managed to get it here on the same day, and got them to unload me when i got here. Ill have a fresh 11hr clock in the morning. Hoping that this load gets me some brownie points with the load planners and can get a good load in the morning. Like a shingles load from Owens Corning in Medina. Those are easy, and pay pretty decent.

We have a steel account south of Dubuque too. Forgot the city. Some Indian name that starts with an O I believe. We haul a lot into Waterloo too. Mainly bar and such to oneil steel. We hard a lot of freight around Iowa, just have to be in the right spot for it.

Gunner, er those loads are the best where you can get them off same day. Makes you feel like you really accomplished something. Luckily you got in and out of the shipper quickly. Getting to Ghent from the north can be testy.
