thanks this site has been real helpful. ive had my cdl a for 2 years been waiting for my son to graduate. ive been driving oil+Lp truck. and now im trying to figure out what to do.

Thanks for all the informative posts, they gave a lot to think about. Are you allowed to drive your personal vehicle to orientation? I thought I read somewhere that was a no-no. -
Some of the guys did drive their own vehicles to orientation. If you want to do that, youll get reimbursed, but youll also want to inform the recruiter your intentions. Youll also have to understand that there is a chance that youll get put with a trainer and leave straight from Des Moines. The chances of that are small, but its all dependent on where you live, and how close trainers are too you. If you end up driving yourself youll be pretty popular with the rest of them. Theyll be asking you for rides to the store and stuff.

Given where you live, it shouldn't be hard to get you a trainer.

I always have my car down in Des Moines. I was always on my own till a buddy showed up. I loved it cause I didn't have to wait on the van to be fixed or turned in. I also live within 4 hours of there too.
