So my load pick up Friday was a close one. I picked up a load of shingles in Brookville Indiana at 4pm going to Arlington heights Illinois. By the time I got home Friday night I had 30 minutes left on my clock. So was a close one. This load is due at the consignee at 8am, I'm currently sitting at the Hillsdale oasis on i294, 20 miles from delivery because there isn't any parking at the consignee, and I didn't want to chance not finding a parking spot close, so I just stopped here for the night. Thinking there was an ulterior motive for this load. Something like a test, to see how I handle having relatively no parking, or limited options and how I work getting to my receiver. I haven't gotten my first snapshot yet, it comes in on Thursday this week. Hoping it will be a decent one.
Stupid question but would really like to know, if you guys spend the nights at the receiver or shipper all the time do you have any facilities to use overnight when there? Do get to shower during the week? I've been watching the youtubes on TMC and while I like the idea of running hard and not wasting time and money at truckstops, but it would also be nice to have facilities to use during the week. Just wondering, thanks.
Kansas, I try to stay at the receivers as much as possible, sometimes there are facilities for us, sometimes no. Our load screens usually say if their is parking for us. All students start at 26%, your first snapshot determines what your next % goes to. From what I can see, its really hard to go down below. I'm told you really have to work at it to not be above 28%
Gunner, I had a LONG talk with a recruiter today at TMC. She was impressed with my lengthy questioning. Looking more and more like I'm applying there this week. I'll go in as "experienced".
Ballc74, I had several long phone conversations with Brad over about a month. They don't care. Made my drop of steel this morning in Louisville, my next load is from silver grove ky, a load of wallboard heading to Lowe's in Peoria Illinois.
When I was with TMC I tried to shower at least 2-3 times a week. Sometimes more depending on how much I sweated or stunk lol. Bring a few things of baby wipes, they help freshen you up when you can't get to a shower. Sometimes you just can't get to a shower or maybe too beat to care. Most consignees that have parking will have just that and some maybe a bathroom/porta potty. If your lucky a drivers lounge area will be available. I never seen one with showers but I wasn't there all that long. I think also that in colder months one might take less showers and in hotter months more.
