I don't know if they require it, but I have a buddy who got shut down and had to get the test. He was down for almost two months. Not sure if it was Tmc or DOT, but he's back now.

So I really think I'm gonna end up with this company real soon. Anyone have info on whether they have or allow inverters, things like that? What are they doing to keep you comfortable? I guess most trucks don't have APUs? Am I gonna need to buy my own fridge, microwave, and do they have places to plug this stuff in?

The new 579s all have 1500 watt inverters built in, you'll need to get your own fridge microwave and wantnot, but they have strict requirements on placement. Don't go getting them till you get a truck so you know what you got to work with

Do trainees/new drivers get the 579s or do they get the old 379s?

It's hit or miss. Some new guys get 379's, some randomly get 579's.

388's are scattered in there, but i think those and the 379's are what they TRY to give the new guys. But hey, I'm not one of their asset managers, so who knows.

WOW..... A lot of info and ALOT of pages but I very much appreciate what has been said and enjoyed not seeing much controversy!

I had TMC #1 and Werner #2 for beginning my trucking career. I want to Flatbed and narrowed down TMC being one of the best for a recently discharged Soldier. Not many companies allow you to use your Post 9/11 GI benefits.

After reading about Werner and TMC from blogs, I am not sure about either one now. I do not want to risk my at home time for a bunch mismanagement issues and not making my miles. These recruiters promise you the world and I KNOW 1st hand how that can be misleading....

If anyone has ANY tips on choosing my 1st company as an Ex-Soldier and one not afraid to work for the $, let me know, please.

Again, I appreciate all the dialogue!

    Big Thanks To Gunner!

I would not consider Werner, I never here much good about them at all.

Look at Maverick, Melton, System Transport, or possibly Prime and Roehl in addition to TMC for flatbed companies that take new drivers.
