Yrc is still on the 15% cut, and their old toilet tractors and trailers leave much to be desired. OD finally is updating the fleet. Most union companies run junk. There are only a handful of good union companies that keep their equipment right, UPS being one of them. Coming out of school recently, I decided to roll with one of the big carriers. Ya, with my real world experience I could run to a union job or trash company. However I've done the daily grind around Boston for the last 10 years. I want to get out, with a newer truck, and try something different. The daily grind gets old too, especially where I work too hard for most union companies and would most likely tell my local steward to piss off and work a little bit harder to keep up with me.
plus, the two hour one way commute into Boston with the traffic, yuck.
Give me the newer truck for slightly less pay any day. I like my air conditioning and power steerin .

    Hi all,

I leave next week for Roehl (Get Your CDL) and too have questions...

    1) PAY - I was told it starts in the 3rd week but pay is weekly? Shouldn't it start it the second then?
    2) SCHEDULE - 4 weeks of training then 15 or so days with the trainer. Is there no down time at all in this period? I get the 15 OTR days but 4 weeks straight before that? People were describing it happening as Monday to Sunday.

@BostonTanker - Nick Strimbu Inc. and PI&I Motor Express are both Teamsters. I think Nick Strimbu refrigerated division does lots of coast to coast runs.
Both companies always hiring becaue most union guys don't want to stray too far from their zip code.
