STILL not arguing, but the link doesnt say trucks arent allowed. says cant EXCEED 53. and that you cant use parkways. and that you need permits. i still dont know...im just a dumb truck driver. what you said caused a bit of alarm, as ive been sent to ny a few times (mostly long island).

and as far as the 13'6" signs go...its even MORE fun when you are trying to get to long island via i believe throggs neck (or maybe goethels?). there is a sign that says "all vehicles over 12'9" take next exit" and if you obey that you end up in brooklyn. did that when i had been driving for all of 3 months. was a REALLY fun day...not.

The nonsence never ceases to amaze me--seems like there is a new NYC thread everyweek--if all this was true--the people of NYC would starve to death since there is apparently no way for trucks to deliver there!
Therefor--let me make one FINAL request--if you don't no--DONT say--this is all nonsence--you can take a truck ANYWHERE inside NYC--that you have a bonefide delivery to--including Manhatten--yes every once in a while NYC DOT gets on a money deal--BUT--they also bank on all the nonsence you hear and the fact out of town companies DO NOT KNOW anybetter and just pay the fines!
BUT think about the reality--8million people in that city--and they all have to eat--gets there somehow doesn't it!
And for what it is worth--just got home this AM--AFTER 7 drops there yesterday--2Manhatten--2-Brooklyn 1-Queesns&2 in the Bronx
    Just my $.02

Ok thanks. So if I understand you correctly, it is illegal for you to be there with that combination but they usually don't enforce it. So if I ever take my spread axle step there, I best take my 48....is that right? One more Q....do you need to slide your tandems all the way forward?

It is a very gray area--NYC says it is Illegal--the federal DOT says local municipalities MUST allow access of the Interstate system to a delivery point...So you see the rub--NYC rarely enforces--but they can/will--usually some type of political motivation etc at the time--BUT--most of the time--you find those tix issued as part of a bigger picture--like get into a wreck that is your fault--tie up traffic--boy they will start stackin every ticket in the world they can think of---Most of the cops in NYC--especially there DOT bunch are really pretty decent and they get it--BUT--they can be a VERY hard core bunch--so usually those tickets are precepitated by something else---
as for tandems--not like cali--far as I know (and I do not pay much attention)when i run myregular tandem 53--I just leave em wherever they are to be close to legal axle weights--and I typically spread a load out and run em back--so it rides better--but thats just me--although--I make lots of drops up there--where the tandems up can be a real problem because of the tail swing-but never had anyone say anything about postion in the city--did have a good friend busted upstate--with his 53' spread--his rear axle is right at back and NYS DOT claimed rear axle cannot be more than 50'--but didn't explain any further--since that really doesnt make sence unless they are meaasurring fron to back--even with a 24"kingpin?

I remember seeing several 'local truck route' signs going west on the CBE. Can't tell you where since I have never exited into the city going west, but I know they're there.

Actually, a 53 is legal anywhere in NYC, as long as your total combination length doesn't exceed 55 feet. Good luck. :)

Also note the 96" width restriction along with the 800lbs per inch of tire tread width weight limitation.

God bless you ol' hand, guys like yourself are becoming more and more scarce out here.

Everyone works themselves all up about NYC, just take a chill pill and drive.
