I was in on rebuilding a bunch of 400kw, JWAC GEN SET 3406 engines years ago. They’d never live in a truck but were ###### at 1800 all day long. Would block load 400 KW.
Worked on several 3412 PEEC 1000 KW STANDBY units also the ‘12 was the sweetest running cat ever. Don’t care for 3408, they sound like ####! -
What do you have against the stc system?

Go N14 celect plus, or BC3. Not saying a mechanical N14,stc,444,475 won't or can't run. Just save your troubles.
Cpl 2591 N14E is as good as it gets for Cummins.
Wanna pass cow buses at the pump, get a Detroooit!.
singlescrewshaker and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -

Now if one was to ATAAC one and use a 10% spring in the Governor they maybe great.
Ours used vernier throttle set to high idle and a Woodward Governor controlling the rack through the manual shut off shaft
They are very responsive to load.
I just assumed they wouldn’t be a great truck set up as they are set up. -
You never said what truck you were putting it in. Have to run in their RPM range as you know. I have an industrial engine in a truck but it was made when the speed limit was 55. It is a bit gear bound so it likes the RPM. Also has some problems though. Will turn the sky black and get you a ticket. Not good on fuel. No governor or fuel pump will make an engine work outside of its operating range. Out of here!
