N14 is an excellent motor. Used to own one, only thing I ever had to do to it was replace injectors and a cam sensor. Thinking you mpg will be around 6

Great combo. But a 1999 volvo. Check floor boards, its a steel cab and they rust. Check frame for rust or repairs. They are known to rust.

Good engine , transmission and axle ratio . If it were in anything other than a Volvo. But that's just me.

If it has 435hp or more, you can turn it all the way to 525hp.
Mpg will be 6-7. Really make sure that there is not much rust on the frame. That is the death of these trucks, otherwise they run for a very long time

I just bought a 96 FLD with N14 and 10spd trans. Its running good and strong. Lady I got it from had it leased to a company that required it be turned down to 65mph... I'm definitely turning back up. Any suggestions I should do to it before I stick her back over the road. Already did blow by and it was good.

Just put an injector inside the truck as a spare, sometimes n14's have problems with them.
Take the truck to a good mechanic to check everything out and get to work

Do not do extended oil drains on a N14, Do not lug the motor. I like all the pre 2003 motors. I think the N14 doesn't get the credit it deserves. They will go 1.5 million miles. I always used cummins recon injectors. To many issues with aftermarket. Biggest thing I can think of is keeping a eye on accessory drive bushings.
