What would be considered excessive air in the return? We are fighting an N14 that has a stutter that starts just off idle. We do have some air on the return side, should there really be any?

Have you figured out the problem? I have the same problem. Don’t notice the stutter until 6th gear and beyond. $4000 spent at Cummins still no solution. Help please

I have a 1997 International with the n-14 celect plus.

Recently discovered the baffle in one of my tanks broke free and had slammed into the fuel pickup towards the front of the tank enough that it broke it free from the bottom and bent it up about 10 inches off the bottom of the tank.

Sucking air in the one side when truck got down to a 1/4 tank.

Don’t rule out anything in the fuel department.

I've had the hose connection at the fuel filter base allow air to pass.

If a guy had this same problem, sucking air in a fitting or connection and he took a can of starting fluid and sprayed it will the motor react and let you know? I'm chasing a stuttering idle, runs good but idle and starter crank time to start it sucks. I have been throwing parts at it for 2 years that I have owned it. In order- fuel pump, "ALL" fuel lines, 2 injectors then 4 months later (last month) remaining 4 injectors, new filter base, complete eng harness with pass throughs, cam sensor, several fuel solenoids, ECM. I have it triple grounded, good power leads fused. It has to be air in fuel somehow but how do you find it?

    Is it worse under load?

I had a bad injector that wouldn’t show up on a cut out test because it only happened loaded. Finally talked the dealer into plugging the Insite laptop into my data port and going for a ride while I had a load on. Insite showed one injector wasn’t flowing right.

My problem was stutter high gear loaded. Solution was O-rings at fuel line connection on filter base were bad.

Don’t forget to get PX injectors too for the N-14. The PX has a way better rebuild quality than the RX.
