200 degrees is fine, 220 to 225 then u starting to have problems, when they replaced the thermostats did the replace the lower seals, those could be leaking around the thermostats and acting like the stat is a partially open

My N14 book that came with the truck says the thermostat doesn't fully open till 212. Fan on mine doesn't come on till 205 or so. Normal temp on mine is around 195-200 but will get to 210-215 at times. it is a 460 N14+

Ok, after reading everything here, hubby has decided that he is just being overly cautious. (Who wouldn't after spending what we did for the inframe, LOL) He feels much better about the temp issue now, and wants to thank you all for replying and setting his mind at ease!

its better to be cautious than sorry

Ok, thought I'd update this thread, just for an FYI for anyone having issues with this.
Here's what the problem was:
The radiator was literally shelled from the outside in. And not in an obvious place. The fins at the bottom were falling out, due to corrosion from the salts used on the roads. Difficult to see under the fan shroud.
After replacing with a brand new radiator with the side tanks, the engine runs at a cool 170 on a hot day pulling on pretty flat ground.
We have a load going to Arkansas Sunday and cannot wait to see what it does there. We barely made it home last Thursday due to this issue. Waited till the sun went down, to pull the grade on 540 out of AR.
Interestingly enough, when we hit KC, the clutch took a dump as well. This was an expensive week.blairandgretchen and 7mouths2feed Thank this. -
Yeah something like that would do it BIG TIME. Considering that if those fins corrode off the radiator fins you loose the heat transfer out of the coolant to the air. I had seen stuff like that in uncoated radiators built in the 60's that were bi-metal a combo of Alumimun fins/copper tubes were the alloy fins came apart from salt but never in a copper and brass Radiator. I called my old shop foreman at my first OTR company man has been keeping rookies on the road since before I was a gleem in my dads eye. He was like HOLY CRAP then he remembers seeing a TSB this. Seems that when Cummions was changing the Nalcool formulas they had a few issues with the radiators doing this. The freaking Nalcool would leach out of the tubes and eat the FREAKING fins of the radiators.

Hello everyone I was reading all of your comments and it seems like 200° to 210° is ok, just had my N14 rebuild and the radiator cleaned up when is just idling the temperature is at 179° and on a pull goes up to 210° but the fan kicks in at 202°
