hey guys, I've recentley changed the oil on my truck N14 Celect...

and today while I was heading to the yard, at a light the oil pressure guage dropped to 0 and the light and buzzer came on, I quickly jumped through a side walk, and pulled into an empty lot and shut her off.

After I checked the oil level which was normal. I restarted the truck and drove off, during the drive as I was accelerating the oil psi raised to 45 then dropped then went up again. after that It did not drop lower than 15 at idle.

I got the hell scared out of me today. so... now does anyone have any advice on where to start looking?

The engine was overhauled a while ago, according to the seller I got it from, and confirmed through service records...

    Thank you!

Could be several things, but if they did a full rebuild (including oil pump and cam bearings) it may be that they damaged the oil pickup "O" ring. Or it could be a bad seal on the new oil filter or a bit of dirt got between the oil filter seal and contact surface. or you may have over tightened the oil filter and caused damage to the filter

pressure relief plunger inside oil pump.easy to remove and replace orings and spring.usually never have to replace plunger itself.knowledgeable cummins parts guy will know off the top of his head which combo of orings, gaskets and spring you will need.about $40 in parts total.also good possibility oil pressure sensor on lower driver side of engine block goes bad quite often.problem is sensor is expensive and non-returnable if it is not the problem.only takes 5 minutes to change.you don't have to drain engine oil to do it.good luck.

mine did that a few years ago, it was the oil pressure sending unit. The computer in my engine is set up to shut the engine down, so I unplugged the connection to the sending unit and drove it to the nearest shop to get the parts to fix it. The CEL was on but at least I the engine didn't shutdown every time the engine thought the oil pressure dropped to zero.

I think this could be my problem, I'm still hooking up a mechanical one just to be sure. Thanks

My celect when i unpluged the oil sensor did not seem to really make the ECM stuff up, or through codes (from memory) but when cummins hooked up the computer it showed a faulty oil sensor.
