Where was the hole? Never lost compression in that cylinder? How'd you find out finally?

Loss of power and oil loss could also be a bad turbo. Pull your intake and exhaust tubes and check for oil in them. There will be black suit on exhaust side, not oily, intake should be clean. Also while you have those off, wiggle the turbo shaft, if there is very much movement, it’s shot. This would also explain power loss. What is your boost pressure running? Also another power loss factor could be your CAC. How is your water temp when pulling hard. Does it heat up fast? Also CAC would kill your fuel mileage.

And it could be time for an inframe. Not ruling that out. Actually probably close to time anyway. But Start simple then go up from there.

It was a very small hole off to one side. No miss at idle, slight flutter in a pull, loss of power.

It was time for a rebuild anyway, we found it when we pulled the head. I was very surprised it ran as well as it did with a hole in the piston.

Don't have a boost gauge but i will be installing one over the weekend and will also check out the turbo. Water temp stays around 175 and it does heat up to 200 quick when going up the hill.

As far as the power loss, sounds more like a boost problem to me, but then I’m not there to see for myself. You definitely need a boost gauge though. Can you hear a whistling or whining sound when in a hard pull?

On the oil consumption, if you can pull the oil filler cap at idle and not feel a “pecking” of air, then you probably don’t have a busted ring or hole in piston. May just be wore slap out and needing a rebuild. You sure it’s not 1.7 million miles?

I do hear turbo on hard pull but it doesn't sound that loud, i will install boost gauge this weekend so i can see what kind of pressure this turbo puts out. It's not 1.7 million, it's 700k. I bought the truck from a farm that used it to haul some of their equipment, they would put like 4k miles a year on this truck so it was sitting alot. I will use the truck as it is for a while and will do full rebuild, just want it to run for now until potatoe season ends. Thanks for the input.

OK did YOU do a dyno when you bought the truck to check the blowby?

Blowby is ONLY ... ONLY tested under a load, not at idle, not sitting on the pavement but under a load on a Dyno.

Worn out piston, piston rings, torbo charger, air compressor. I've had mine since 1997 going on my second over haul. Only problems Ive had so far a bad injector here and there, head gasket, TPS and accessory drive seal going out.

I installed the boost gauge and at the wide open throttle it goes up to 22 psi, checked turbo and comp wheel has minimal play and no oil on the exhaust side.

In an Over head, you not supposed to touch the injectors. On an N14 once set, leave them alone.
