Could e trash in the lines before the filter. Something floating around in the tank. Don't discount a bad or wrong or cheap filter....

ive changed the filter about 5 times. it shut down again this passed week when the tank got below half tank it seems. its the strangest thing. i filled it back up and nothing since. i just dont see how this would be possible. could closing off the driver tank and letting this one get below half really make it suck air or shut down?

Is this a bottom feed or top feed tank?

Check the stand-pipes for a crack.

If your hoses are on top if tank, then you have "pick up tubes" which draw fuel from bottom of tank up thru metal tubes. These tubes crack over time at a spot on the tube. Depending on where that crack is determines how full you have to be to not suck air thru the crack in the tube.

hmm this makes a lot of sense. im getting my driver side tank hooked back up this weekend probably..hopefully that slows it down. so im assuming the only way to fix it is to get another tank?

No. At the top of the tank is a round plate about 4 inches in diameter. The pick up tube is attached to that. You may have to loosen the band clamps and rotate the tank to get it out.
