i have a 99 FLD 120 with a 96 M11 Recon celect plus. I am looking at a freightliner classic that has an N14 that needs a rebuild. Instead of rebuilding the N14 I was thinking of just swapping it with my M11. I am aware the engine mounts need to change, and I’m assuming I may need a wire harness adapter. Does anyone know exactly what I may need to do this swap?

#### swapping a n14 to a m11. Now thats a sin.
Bakerman, Roger McG, mile marker 27 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Now now, there’s nothing wrong with a M11.
Sure it won’t have as much power as the N14 but they’re a great little engine.
I drove a M11 for 4 years and liked it.Brettj3876 Thanks this. -
Sell m11 rebuild n14
AModelCat, Bakerman and mile marker 27 Thank this. -
Don't underestimate the little guy. RV spec had 500/1550
MACK E-6 Thanks this. -
The truck I drove is a 330/1250.
Works great grossing 106,000 lbs with a loaded stepdeck. Until I see steep hills.....
Also has the Super 10 speed. Downshifts great on the hills.Deere hunter and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
Just to be certain, you have to take measurements from the center of the rear motor mounts to the center of the front motor mount. I would also measure from the back motor mount to the tail shaft of the transmission just to make sure there's no difference in the flywheel housing that you would have to alter your drive shaft. If it sits in the same spot with the same motor mounts I would think the rest would be the same.
If you have a donor truck I don't think that swap would be very difficult. The things that don't match up from one engine to the other you can just take it right off the other truck. I don't know about the wiring, but if the wiring is the same you could just take the ECM from your parts truck.
I have to say though, the classic will be worth less money with the smaller engine.
If it were me, I would want to rebuild the n14 and either sell the other truck or keep it as a good reliable spare or local truck.
Well actually let me change that. If it were me, I would put a big cam in it and be done with it. There is a place in North Carolina you can buy a whole brand new engine for around $11,000.
But there is a little more to that swap though...JD&N Trans, Brettj3876, Bean Jr. and 3 others Thank this. -
