Cummins motor. Water pump leaks again thru the weep hole.
I replaced pump 6-8 months ago, then again about a month back. Now again today.
All the same reason leaking from weep hole under drive pulley.
Can the cooling system get too much interior pressure and break the seal in the pump.
The pumps seem ok, no wobble, grinding or play in/out or sideways.
I have replaced radiator, and all the hoses plus overhauled the fan.
Did I just have bad luck and got pumps that were not good when I installed them.
Thanks for any words of wisdom.

I once had a truck that we installed three pumps on before we got a good one. Haldex units. N-14.
xsetra Thanks this. -
That makes me feel better, I have one more chance to get it right
Thanks for the reply. -
where r u getting the pump from?
-
shop that overhauls motors, they warranty the pumps and include gaskets and O-rings.

well i got one that wasn't from cummins and it last like 4 months. Bought one from cummins and havent had a problem since. I wonder what kind of pump they are using. funny thing about that n14 it seems to like genuine parts for some reason. A lot of the aftermarket cheaper parts have given me headaches.....just my 2 cents

There's also a copper tube behind it, when you have the water pump off, best to replace tube or get some o rings from the hardware store.
It is possible to get a defective water pump. You have to figure they are sitting around until someone needs them. Last one I had was close to 800,000 before it came off. -
I got a remanufactured one from Cummins and it's been good for a year so far, I think it was around $300

I was taught that some coolant additives, in excessive amounts, could cause seal failures. If replacing a pump for that reason also always flush the block and use new juice.
With a gauge in the R.R. of the block, max RPM, low flows run about 52 PSI, the old BC about 30-35? and the N-14 is probably about the same. I never heard of high pressure being a problem and thank the seal area would be low pressure anyway, that gives you an idea if you want to test internal pressure.
Did see a man put three Cummins Recons on the same day and they all leaked. Seals were put in wrong. It happens. -
Do you mean the tube that comes from the thermostat housing?
Changed the lower o-ring when I replaced pump.
I put new coolant in when I changed the first pump last summer. I use a fleetgard charged filter and when putting in new I used an additive charge according to Cummins.
Maybe I will just replace fluid with pre-charged and diluted coolant.
Thanks for the replies
