I know 287 well. I have blood and tears on that cursed road. From that Tappan Zee all the way down.

    With that said...

I was on 15 just past the Duncannon where there is a big stone arch bridge for the railroad at the wide spot in the river on the bluff. (They moved a mountain to make two lanes 4... I'll explain here...)

Back when it was two lane on that mountain, I was falling asleep tired after standing around all day loading butter in Baltimore SW at the sheds vandenburgh. That was due to Sysco in Horseheads/Emilra which was one of my really basic runs with which I could do asleep (And did... that night)

Anyhow. My cabover has a certain spot where the yellow line has to be in order to be safe. I woke up realzing the yellow line was one foot over too far this way meaning I was inside the other oncoming southbound lane. Due to my groggy slow acting mind this 18 wheeler coming at me was setting up for a proper offset that would be lethal to both of us.

I horse that #### thing to the right. I hear my mirrior go tink with his mirror and watched the trailers pass with like nothing between them. CB radio lit up *&^% etc. Then YOU ok? Eff yea, you? OMG you sleep? er... get your ### there on the pull off by that river. And so it was, only took about two packs of smokes and shakes for a few hours to really stop being awake like that.

I consider that night on US 15 my birthday other than the real one. I lived and also died that night.

But 287? They can have it. I don't want it. Too much under the bridge there. People used to die slamming into the rigs sleeping on the shoulders. BOOM. Every night. BOOOOM. Not me.
