New law bans tow truck companies from booting tractor trailers, commercial trucks in North Carolina
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A bill banning tow truck drivers from booting tractor trailers was signed into law Wednesday by North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein.
The new regulation comes after years of WBTV’s investigations into the Wild West of Towing in Charlotte.
The law prohibits using a boot or any other immobilization device on commercial trucks for the purpose of parking enforcement. Anyone found in violation of the law can be charged with a Class 2 misdemeanor.
The new law will take effect on Dec. 1, 2025.
