Don't give up. Go with the best company that will hire you. You still have a chance. In the future if equipment isn't safe and they refuse to fix it, ask for a inspection. Again, don't give up
RIGHT ON "Moose!" yeah,...i "balked" at that one too. A LOT of Drivers don't do nights. The one's that drive at night, make more money, but MANY will not (too dangerous and driving weird roads compounds the problem). Don't listen to these dispatchers and companies that want to push you over your limits. You got to have some spine to be in this business. Tell them NO...!!! If that doesn't work,...put out your resume...and get another job. Leave them with NO NOTICE... ~T
Yes. One key factor in your ability to run loads as you like is to ALWAYS be on time. Barring weather or mechanical issues you should never be late for delivery. Another factor is the ability to just say 'no' to loads that would put you at risk. Too often have I delivered a load at 0800 after driving for an hour and sleeping all night, just to be sent a preplan that expects me to pick up the next load at 1100 that night - and then driving all night. Sorry, but I can not get to sleep after being up for 4 or 6 hours. I'll be awake until that night. To accept a load when I know I would not have enough sleep is simply unsafe. And that is what I tell them. (And you can always turn it back on them. If they just got in, tell them they have 10 hours to get some sleep and return for duty all bright eyed for an overnight shift.) Always use the Qualcom to communicate these messages - never simply on the phone with someone. And always require that they sent you the response in the same way. You need documented proof! More often than not, they will not want to respond in that manner. These people seem to thrive on pushing other people to do the impossible, when their own jobs are much easier in every respect. Learn the system that you work under and you can do as you like - for the most part.
So many replies and so much encouragement, Thank you! I value all the input, even when it is corrective. I realize now even getting fired is teaching me to have that spine to direct my affairs MY Way! I can't redo, but I am determined that I am a conscientious and good driver, and yes there will always be some kind of learning curve. Saying No thank you is actually quite difficult for me- I admit that- because I recognize that my personality is bent in a way to try to co-operate and be compliant and overcome challenges. Being a bit insecure by being a newbie added to that. I wanted to "prove" myself. I didn't need to- I see that now. I am aware that some companies find me unacceptable only because I was terminated. My age, being female, and now this current cold weather snap may stand in my way, for now- But I am going to keep on because it is something I want very much. And, I expect that I will learn from everything on many levels past and future.
I was surprised to learn that most truckers won’t roll at night. You can blast right through those major cities. I guess some folks don’t have the best night vision

Once I wrote a letter detailing several previous problem employers without whining or complaining. Laid out the stories of how it developed to where I ended up. Sent that letter to a company in Arkansas and figured he will laugh it off because he drove himself before going to Business college. Well a bus ticket came and the future was at that time bright with possibilities. It was very difficult because I was running with a dump truck and farm out fit that was pretty much my all time favorite group of people to be with everyday. One is buried now from a torn great vein failure in the back of his heart at 59 the other is probably going to keep shoveling until he drops at 90 plus. But I knew Im going back OTR and tickets be darned. And so I went. I hate to think that I would still be shoveling blacktop until it's time to get social security or get falling off the high bridge at security mall or something stupid...
