The only problem with using a USPS box is that it will show as a p.o. box. A UPS box will give you an actual addresss.

I think you may run into problems with using a USPS box, AKA PO box. I believe most DMV's won't permitt the use of a PO box on a DL. MYMV depending on state. I'd say save yourself the hassle and ask your DMV before you perchase a PO box.

I use to live in S.Lake Tahoe, Ca. where they do not have home mail delivery and EVERYONE has a PO box (USPS) to receive mail. I currently have a cabin in Idyllwild, Ca. and it's the same situation, no home delivery. Everyone has a PO box for free to receive mail. However, I don't have a Ca. license, so I'm not sure if people with Ca. drivers license show their home address as primary or secondary. I have a Az. vehicle registration with a Ca. PO box as an address.

Yes, but a mail address (PO Box) is different than a physical address (the street you live on).

You simply rent a PO Box from a UPS store in the area you want your address to be in. UPS will forward your mail to the address of your choice or hold it for you for pickup.

If you do this in Nevada you can stop paying state income tax. There can be numerous advantages for you if you pan this carefully.

UPS uses a street address, so know one needs to know. example 1234 Main Street #213, it simply looks like a apartment.

One of my nearby post offices (Galesville, MD) only has P.O. box delivery, but due to no street delivery has to allow street addressed mail to be put in the P.O. boxes.

FYI: The Postal Service is implementing a pilot program in select locations which will allow POB customers to use the street address of the post office to receive parcels from UPS and Fed Ex. Not that this would apply to the DMV requirements.

You can live anywhere you want. Here's my experience:
In 2000 I sold everything I owned in my state of residence (CA), bought a big motor home and a new car and hit the road full-time. I joined an organization called "Escapees". They are primarily for RVers but there's no requirement there. They have a fabulous mail forwarding program and supply a street address in Livingston, TX as your "home". I went to TX and got my driver's license.

Also as an aside, to buy my new motor home and car I set up an LLC in Montana where there is no sales tax. The LLC owned the motor home and car, I owned the LLC. My vehicles were licensed in Montana, my driver's license was from Texas. I kept this arrangement for 3 years before settling in Florida in 2003.

I had no state income tax because I was a resident of Texas. I paid no sales tax on my motor home and car because they were "garaged" in Montana (that saved me about $22,000 based on what I would have paid in CA).

It's all perfectly legal. So, why do over the road truckers continue to "live" in high tax states when they spend most of their time away from "home"?

I regularly see RV forums where there's lots of talk about this, some can't believe it's for real...trust me, it is!

you have to maintain some type of address --- if you claim a tax deduction for being away from home you have to have a home to be away from --- check with a tax man for the miminum requirements --that all works for your cdl too -- if you get audited by they irs after 3 yrs or so and they disallow that deduction your going to be working for free for awhile-- theres a few ways to get it legal but the way the irs changes things every year your best bet is to talk to a tax man that is up to date on truckers taxes -- texas is changing there resident policy for ghost residents in september so i am sure everybody is going to follow because of homeland security
