I learned on semi rural roads. Learned how to float gears the first day. I was able to learn to drive the truck without a lot of 4 wheelers to deal with. You should do just fine. Do not be afraid to ask questions.
i wish someone had done that with me. I drove with other drivers with a permit then went to school. Believe me you will love floating the gears more than double clutching. Not only does it save your knees, but if you are hauling a load lot easier to upshift floating when going up a hill. like other posters have said, do not be afraid to ask questions.
Yea dude go for it I started cdl- a school 1st of October we will be road testing this week. I'm nervious but I think I can do it, I'v only been on the road 4 times so far. Skills and pre trip I will be fine for sure. Once I have cdl-a thin I will need some who is willing to take me the rest of the way. Good Luck!
All this advice you have recieved is excellent. I offer my own piece. If your load pisses on you, BBQ TIME!!!!

This is why I could never haul livestock. I'd have a grill permanently mounted on my catwalk, and plenty of charcoal at all times.
