Thats like saying any trucker who uses A/C is not a real driver. In the old days we had no A/C in trucks. Why would someone not use technology to make him a better driver. Granted you need to buy a trucker GPS. Whats safer? A driver driving thru a school zone in Chicago looking at evrything but the road trying to find a street, or one who has a machine telling him in a audible voice how far until he turns. If used correctly they enhance the safety of the truck.

I wouldn't mind peeking over at a PC Miller from time to time, but route planning is still best on a good truck atlas I would think. I like the bright orange designated routes because even though I'm not the sharpest knife I can still follow the bright paint pretty well.
I don't have enough stick time to give any real insight one way or the other, just know what I have experienced pulling dirt sod and straw to strange places south of here. (Not that there's too much south of here.) As for the company at hand, May, do they prefer route planning by book? Also, how are they about giving you a pre-plan? PC Miller seems a little hard to plan a trip in, but I was never a technical genius by any means. It will usually keep you out of a tight street and away from low overhangs, but no science is perfect, even the book. Thanks for helping the rook here, best of luck and stay safe guys.

May dose not allow GPS in there company trucks of any kind. They will AND have searched trucks looking for them. When found they will make you send it home on your dime. Doesn't make a diff what program is on it. When they give you a load they will tell you what routs to run. And you must follow it. They also want you to follow there directions in to the cust. If you don't you will get a butt chewing. Continue to not follow it and you could just find your self out on the street.
Oh and they also have a driving course to include a back up test that EVERY company driver must do every 3 months. At which time they will also run your license to check for any tickets you may have "forgotten" to tell them about. If you have any kind of incident they will make you take the road test again. Yes you read right. You hit a deer. You get to take the road test again. You just clip a yellow pole. You get to take the road test again. The one right out of the DOT hand book. You fail you walk. DOSE NOT MATTER HOW MANY YEARS YOU HAVE BEEN DRIVING. Now tell me that this company is not worse the Swift. -
So if you come across a major accident on one of the routes they demand you use and the road is closed and you are forced to take a detour, wouldn't having a gps be to your benefit?
