Last year my mileage average was 2789 for the year. This year is turning up better with a average of 3100 on the E-Logs. I'm near the top of the pay scale as well. I'm not sure the average length of haul company wide but my typical run is Portland OR area to Southern FL . Average not sure of but I would imagine 2500 LOH for me!
I got a few questions for ya Steve. I'm putting together my wish list of companies I'm hoping to get on with in September and all the ones that allow inverters are at the top of the list, because that one luxury is important to me as I plan to pretty much live on my truck for the first few years. So everything I know about May comes from either Your videos, this forum, or Mays website. So assuming none of the companies that I want to work for that allow inverters want to hire me, whats good about may? This is what I've heard: Freightliners and Pete's with 13 speeds No inverters No Apu's Strict Idle policy Low miles 1500-2000 30cpm starting pay Do they hire from NC? This is what is correct. Freightliners (century class and cascadias) Pete's (379's extended hoods/short hoods and 386 model) International (prostar) Volvo (770) Not many left on fleet cycling out Apu - none not cost effective in the trucks life cycle may turns trucks in at a rate that the unit wouldn't save any money in the long run, until the cost of units come down. Idle policy - is firm but flexible if the weather is extreme (hot or cold) they will make exceptions (you have to communicate this with DM) I have wrote about mays idle policy on another thread as to why they do it. I forget which. Inverters - May not only allows inverters but they will install anything you want in the truck - free of charge. I have never had any problem My truck is decked out Microwave - Coleman fridge - cook top - etc I will be having them in stall a plasma tv on the back wall soon (i hope) and a PS3 Miles - I have been averaging over 3000 this year and over 2700 last year I also have side business so I don't ask to run hard. A drivers miles can vary depending on how well he manages him self/time etc communication is key. Training period is pending your abilities no mandatory time frame you could be in your own truck with in 3 days average time to solo upgrade is 3 weeks. Again this depends on you. Pay is slightly above average for a entry level driver 2/3 years ago they started everyone at 36 cpm but 2 years prior to that most every one dropped their starting pay for entry level drivers to 28 cents. May waited two years to switch and still pay above average. Not sure if may hires out of that area that could change often I'm sure. Thank you! Wow lots of great info I must read some incorrect info on the inverters. I'll definitely give a may recruiter a call. You also forgot about the movie studio you got in there lol You might want to get a LCD instead of a plasma. Plasma TV's are very heavy and don't like to be bounced around allot, and they use just as much electricity while shut off as they do while turned on. plasmas also have a Expected life span of 7 years, They also put off allot of heat and have a glass like screen so they glare. Where as an LCD can take allot of abuse and are very light as well as use very little electricity. LCD's have an expected life span of 14 years. LCD's put off very little heat and have a plastic screen so they don't have a glare. I did allot of research on HDTV's before I bought my LCD. Just thought I should share what I learned.
