The biggest reason CAT left the highway market had nothing to do with emissions. Paccar was gonna develop the DAF engine for there trucks, Peterbilt/Kenworth, more often than not powered by CAT engines. The other truck makers either bought or had there own in-house engine supplier and CAT's were no longer available as an option, Western Star, Freightliner ect... The on-highway market for CAT really shrunk and they were so backlogged on the bigger off-highway engines that it wasn't really worthwhile for them to produce an engine for the highway. The b.s. that CAT Acert couldn't meet emissions is just that, b.s.... From what I've read the only engine CAT paid penalty on was the bridge engine aka the MBN.

It's a catalytic converter.
A 2007 truck with a Caterpillar engine that does not have a DPF has a 2006 engine in it.
-
Ok. Is the catylic convertor suppresive on mpg. Does it have to be washed?
-
No, you don't have to wash it. Unless you wanna make it shiny.
-
Excuse me , I didn't Say it couldn't meet emissions . I said they couldn't get the Acert patented.
as for the rest , I bow to your supposed superior knowledge. -
Well you posted B.S. what am I supposed to think. Your reply to my post confirmed my assumption.
-
Right. Oh, great genius , why do you waste your time with lowly truck drivers?
-
Well there are "truck driver's" and then there are men/women who drive trucks. Bet you can't guess which group your in and which group I associate with. Now I'm done wasting time with you.
-
LOL! I'm a professional tourist. Don't call me no " person who drives trucks " , oh Great Sage . The waste was all mine.
