Within the next 12 months I am going to be transitioning into a new career of truck driving after almost 30 years at my current job. I am soon to be 59 and still have bills to pay and I think driving will be a good fit for me. I am planning on going to driving school while I am still working. Miller Motte offers a class that will fit my current schedule. I am in the middle Tennessee area and would like some input on best places to start out driving that are both good places to work and pay their employees well. I have been reading and obtaining a lot of information on these forums. Hopefully Chinatown will share some of his infinite wisdom with me as well as others. I would also like some input on issues that being CPAP dependent will bring for me. Also what companies will hire older drivers and which ones not to waste my time on. Also if anybody has any good or bad on Miller Motte or a better place to go to school or any other tips or info will be greatly appreciated. THANKS and be safe!

Good luck to you. And, you're age won't be a hindrance at all.

CPAP use will require proof-of-compliance at DOT physical. Depending on your ethical boundary's, it's generally less troublesome to admit ANY health issues during DOT exam (doing so only increases restrictions while offering no treatment).

In trucking, age is not an issue.
CPAP machine must have the feature to download data to ensure you use the machine as you're supposed to. This is a requirement.Giuseppe Ventolucci, xlsdraw, ACnTN and 3 others Thank this. -
OTR, Regional, Home Daily? Dry van, Reefer, Flatbed, Tanker? Be specific as to what you are interested in.

Before you graduate, get all the endorsements plus TWIC ID Card and passport card. All these lead to the good paying jobs.
Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
TWIC mostly not required, even at ports. It makes some access easier, but not required for most ports (even with DHS). Passport and or some version of FAST pass is essential if running near any US/Canadian crossing. Do not be misled, having these do not mean more pay. Only diverse employment opportunities during economic fluctuations.

Where ever you decide to go, don't touch CR England. You'll forever regret it. Good school, but they treat you like a slave.
Good luck, sirSHOJim Thanks this. -
Knight has a terminal in TN and I want to say there is a drop yard somewhere in eastern TN. Good money and I have no complaints. With a CPAP you would have to get an inverter to power it. Knight trucks are pretty basic.
