I’m not a trucker yet, I’m looking to be a contract driver with Prime Transportation. Im just trying to think ahead. My dad used to be a trucker driver and I remember he gained a lot of weight by eating a lot of fast food. I don’t like fast food or processed foods. I love cooking and eating fresh foods. I’ve been looking into getting a grill and a burner. I just need on advice on which way i should go. Should I get an electric burner/grill or should I get a propane burner/grill. If any of you guys use either one I’d really like to hear all of your opinions on which one is the best and why. Thanks in advance!

I used a propane unit for a little bit, but it made me uneasy surrounded with all of that flammable material in the cab.
I swapped that out for a 12" electric skillet, that was the best in the truck. https://www.amazon.com/Oster-CKSTSKFM12MR-ECO-DuraCeramic-Electric-Skillet/dp/B00LHRH300/ref=sr_1_4?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1518004577&sr=1-4&keywords=electric+skillet&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin:6526902011
Then, that got to be a pain to keep clean and I switched over to this... The Five Minute Chef... https://www.amazon.com/Copper-Minut...&qid=1518004635&sr=1-1&keywords=5+minute+chef
You can cook a few items in the 5 minute chef, but not as much as the skillet, of course. I liked the chef unit because it was easy to clean and took up little room.
And of course, a microwave, which I do not have in the truck.
My best advice for keeping the pounds off is to stay away from the bread, which is difficult to do out here. Also, soda pop or drinks like that. Going heavy on foods high in fat content, dairy, cheese, butter, eggs, fatty meats like BACON or Rib Eye, and then allowing my body to go into ketosis. Doing that was the best thing I ever did health wise out here. I lost quite a bit of weight, was never hungry, joint pain went away and the mental aquity came back.
It is difficult to eat healthy out here, but not impossible, but it does take effort. Shop the outside aisles at the grocery store. Limited or no carbs, high fat, easy on the protein.

Cooking fresh food is very important to me. I’m trying to lose weight so I stay away from all the sode and junk, as well as anything processed. I’ll definitely take this advice and be smart when getting food. I also have another question if you don’t mind me asking. For food that is cold like fish or chicken, how do I keep it cold? Do most trucks have mini fridges, or will I have to use an Ice cooler?

That will depend on the carrier, if they have inverters/APU in the trucks to power appliances. Some do have actual refrigerators in the sleeper. There are 12volt coolers out there too, it has been years since I used one though, and the experience was not good.
I would see if Prime has any trucks with APU's on them, I see those guys all the time, and worked there around 30 years ago, but no clue how they are setting their trucks up.
Myself, boy, if I did not have a fridge, I think I would go the cooler and ice route, but that can get expensive. There is an outfit that makes coolers with an actual compressor in them, they are pricey, but I have owned one in the past and they do work. That may be another option for you, but as I stated, those units are not cheap.
Here is one of those coolers... https://www.amazon.com/Alpicool-com...D=41SZ1HH2wyL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=detailLast edited: Feb 7, 2018
Jamesyboy96 Thanks this. -
I’ve done a lot of research on Prime and I have confirmed that almost all their trucks have inverters/APU’s. I’ll just have to see what there is in options when I graduate from training and get my truck. If it doesn’t have a refrigerator I’ll probably get something small like a cooler or a small mini fridge, just depends.
Justrucking2 Thanks this.
