Good post but might I add ... "in addition to try not to hit anything, learn to keep your trailer activity [in turns] right up there with knowing what's going on in front of you. i.e. learn to know when you hit something WHEN you hit it, not later that evening and you're wondering how that side-wall gash got there".

You should know how much you cleared each corner down to within about a foot or so. If you don't know, you're asking for trouble later on and you'll be sitting across from the safety man trying to explain why they should keep taking a chance on you.

It's a difficult task to "master" but it must be mastered sooner rather then later.

Use ALL the space available to you. Every bit. You'll never go wrong. This applies to every situation.

Today, I didn't do that. I had to back out of a shopping center entrance because I lacked about 6 inches of clearance to get the trailer tandems past the guard rail at the entrance.. I turned right from the center lane of the main roadway, but I could have (and should have) used the oncoming traffic lane before making the turn.

In my own defense, I had made that turn many times before with another truck and trailer combination. My new truck and trailer isn't as nimble as the older combo...
