Some worksource/state job agencies will pay for half of your CDL training (or possibly all of it) at a private CDL school company. My state paid for half and the rest was loaned to me by a company the school uses. Swift will offer tuition reimbursement (and most other major companies do) to pay off that loan. Otherwise you would want to go with companies that will take you both on and train you to pass and obtain a CDL but you will both have to commit to that company I think for a time. If you left after getting the CDL you pay back the cost of their training.
As for coupling. It's not hard. Line the wheels of the tractor up with the trailer and slowly back, making sure the trailer is lowered slightly. Then you listen for the click and do the tug tests. Getting out to make sure the release arm is locked and there's no gap or light between the trailer apron and the 5th wheel(sliding plate).
