Hi,
I work in a trucking company where they treat drivers really bad.
There are 2 drivers that are planning on quitting there and they are looking to buy a truck together and drive team.
I recently opened a trucking company. And I have been dispatching trucks (East Coast & West Coast) for about 5 years now. So I have a little bit of experience.
I also put a request for a loan to buy a new truck and trailer. (waiting for an answer, and theres a good chance i will get it)
I am planning on putting my mom and dad to drive the truck that I buy as team drivers. Yes, they have a CDL with a little bit of experience.
What I am wondering is....
Those 2 guys want options, to work for my company.
What & How should I charge them as owner operators?
What do owner operators want in a trucking company?
Some kind of bonuses?
What would be a good percentage for me to charge if i decide to charge percentage on a load?
Will it work out for them to drive as a team?
Anything you could tell me, please let me know!
I need ALL the advise I could get.
I would really appreciate all of your guys advise.
Need Advise about what owner operators want...

Honestly I would search the forum this topic has been brought up.
You are already dispatching trucks are you not ? If so what do you pay them ? Why do you want to pay someone else different? Since you mentioned you are getting a truck who handles repairs and covers expenses?
What I might pay someone might not work for you. You need to know what your expenses, profits, and projected income are and go from there. -
The reason why I'm asking is because the company where I'm at now... they only hire company drivers. I am wondering about owner operators.

so you work for a company that treats their employees bad ok got it!
wait you opened a company ? I'm confused which one is it ?
your company only hires o/o or the other company that treats them bad? Again sorry I'm confused.ramblingman Thanks this. -
Sorry!!! The company that hires company drivers only..... is the one that treats them badly.
They want to leave and buy their own truck. -
ok so you stated you started a company dispatching trucks yes ?
-
yes
basically want to know what would be a good offer for them? how much i should charge on percentage.
-
ok I don't mean to be the dude that's a d i c k but I truly don't get your issue. You dispatch trucks now. I am assuming you are a broker and you take a percentage of the load. What makes these two guys any different from the other trucks you dispatch now ? Why do you want to pay these two differently?

I am looking to hire team drivers to drive their own truck.
Usually do runs from ohio to cali (2327 miles. )
Average pay on a full load right now is around 3000 going to cali.
and about $3300 - $3600 coming back.
We are based in Ohio.
What would be a good % to charge these drivers.
I would be doing all the paperwork & dispatching.
I do not factor any invoices. I do all the work myself.
Any ideas? -
What do owner-operators want? Oh boy, that's different for everyone.
On average they want to keep rolling while they are ready to work. And be left alone when they don't want to work.
If you are dispatching loads for them, try to get something lined up before they finish the current load. Assuming they are reliable.
Percentage of the load is common, but that's all over the place too. Where I am now they take 12%, but others have taken 20%. But in both cases that's using the companies authority.Yves kanevil and zoryana Thank this.
