I'm confused! Why doesn't your present wife look after her while you are on the road and you stay in Florida?

    RickJPII Thanks this.

There's only one dumb question Ridgeline; the one you don't ask.

I'm sure there are. But none of them will hire a recent grad with no experience. I spent two weeks knocking on doors and forwarding resumes to every possible online job posting I saw, and either heard nothing back, or was told "sorry" every single time. I even got rejected for a Class B local job driving a 26' box truck that I applied to, because I don't have at least 1 year "commercial vehicle driving" experience.

    Go with Schneider Bulk or:

    SVTN
    CTL Transportation
    Superior Carriers
    Groendyke Transport
    Trimac Transportation
    Tidewater Transit

You want to take good care of your daughter so you need good paychecks; very doubtful you will make over $60K per year at Werner, but you will with tankers. You will see Southeast Texas on a regular basis with tankers.
You can make a lot more money than Werner with one of those plant haulers out of Florida, but tankers are best. Can "take home" around $1300.00 a week with Florida Beauty Express and have unlimited time off. Can also do pretty good with Armellini Express.
Go with tankers and forget Werner.

    It's a complicated legal issue.

In Florida, a step-parent cannot be given legal or "custodial" responsibility for a child, in the absence of the child's custodial parent, without that step-parent adopting his/her step-child. The only way for a step-parent to adopt a step-child when the child's non-custodial parent is either alive, or has not had his/her parental rights revoked, is for the non-custodial parent to consent to the adoption. To revoke parental rights, a parent must prove that revoking the other parent's rights is in the best interest of the child, by either proving the other parent has a history of substance abuse, mental instability, is a threat to him/herself, or has been imprisoned, AND it would involve a very long, dragged out, and highly expensive court battle.

Thanks for your advise CT. FBE hired me a week after I graduated. In fact they told me to come work for them the day before I started school. But I still would have had to go OTR and I don't care for teams, or fingerprinting hundredths of boxes. Armellini's training for inexperienced drivers is 12 weeks long and 5 of those you're a 3rd seater in a truck that's already a bit small for two guys. FBE thought I could do a local route they were hiring for when I talked to them, but at the 11th hour they decided against it. Besides that job only paid $11.00 per hour.

I already got the job with Schneider. Start date is April 6. And yesterday I received the Court's Order granting my relocation, so I'll be on my way within a few days.

My main concern was not whether to go with Schneider or Werner, but whether one would have been more convenient to keep a family balance than the other.

Your opinion and that of the others who have responded to my inquiry has been well received and I thank all of you for it. Those opinions served to reinforce my gut feeling that Schneider was the way to go.

Now, all I have to overcome is my wife, and my step-kids, whom I love dearly, accepting I'll only be home a week every other month or so for the next 6 months to a year.

Good luck with all of this, and my hats off to all of you that go OTR for weeks at a time with such limited home time. I couldn't do it, especially with kids at home.

OK Just keep applying, unless there is something in your background, the grad thing is not the obstacle for a lot of companies.

So this means that the step parent can not pick the child up from school, be alone with the child while the custodial parent is away at work or even at the doctors but in other words pretty much be an exclusive custody of the kid at all times.

Of course not. Then again, what you're mentioning are reasonay short periods of time and the law makes allowance for that. It's the extended periods of time (like 3 weeks or so) that can get both my wife and me in trouble.

Nothing in my background; not even tickets or accidents in 15 years.

I don't want to rain on your parade but you don't have a job with Schneider. You have an invitation to orientation. You don't have an official job till you get your first load.

Secondly, stay on here as you go through the year. Go to the Schneider forum and ask advice on how to work the system. Schneider is a company where you can't be shy, if you don't complain they can kind of forget about you.

I intend to pick up that first load. Thanks for the heads up. If there's something I'm not, is shy. I have no problem asking for work. I'll look into the forum as often as possible.

    Thanks.
