Northern Texas has a employment surge due to the oilfields. That is not all of Texas. It is a big state. Even with the surge mega-crap companies have no problem filling seats in the rest of Texas.
Remember PACCAR moved Peterbuilt production to Texas just for the low labor cost; they figured is was almost as cheep as moving to Mexico like Frightliner did.
And yes I go to Texas all the time.
Need advise fast!!

To claim that Texas is a bad state to be a trucker is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever heard on here. You have no facts, have read nothing, studied not one analysis yet you know Texas sucks for drivers. If you had done any of the above three things you would know that the Texas economy, including trucking, is stronger than most in the U.S.
How in God's name can you drive through Houston and miss all the trucking companies? -
I go through to and through Texas all the time and I know many times and places in Texas is is hard to get a paying load. Not as bad a say Florida but worse than many others. That is what I know. I am not a economist nor or you so put your butthurt away.
It is no secret Peterbuilt moved from the northwest & California, to Tennessee & Newark to capitalize on cheap labor. Then moved again to bust the union; again for cheap labor. Nissan, Volkswagon, and GM all keep auto plants in Tennessee for the low taxes. -
Surely, you have more than just not finding a paying load (bet that never happens anywhere else) the megas hire in Texas (water is also wet, great point!) and Peterbilt moved in (this guy certainly has no facts as to why they did this because he is not included in those decisions therefore it's pure speculation).Blessedtruker86 Thanks this. -
Texas isn't a bad state for trucking its just sucks to live there. Hot, dusty and their idea of a tree is an 8 foot tall bush. No wonder they don't have a state income tax. No one would pay to live there.

This a post was started by a guy with a family needing a trucking job not about a guy compensating about issues related to the state he lives in.
If this guy can find a good local job in Texas, by all means point it out to him. Thats what he needs not a bunch of sore asse complaining from someone in Texas.
My experience in trucking is that the two states that I have a hard time finding a paying load in or get layover in are Florida followed by Texas. Truckstops and terminals are often full of drivers that have been sitting. Considering Texas is a border state, oil state, a state with seaports and agriculture, that should not be. The impression I get from talking with other drivers layed-over in Texas is that jobs and trucking loads are not that good out of Texas. Furthermore, when I get loads out of Texas 9 times out of 10 they are hazmat loads. Being the companies I have worked for have a preference of not pulling hazmat, that tells me something right there. Texas is also the only state I have been deadheaded out of, and that has happened several times. That is my impression of trucking in Texas; to some that that may mean something and that is all I am relaying. If you don't get it just put your head back in the sand.
