I'm not the expert, but, they may not be OOS violations BUT if I'm not mistaken leaks of any kind is worth being written up for ... so ask yourself; do you want to pay a ticket?

Ever hear of a DVIR ? Write all these things up . Before the truck is used again they will have to be signed off as fixed or not interfering with the safe operation of the vehicle . Then you have to sign accepting the repairs.

I get paid by the hour and at times I will take out a local load and return to my home terminal and wait up to 4 hours for another load. during this time I can hang out in the drivers lounge, watch tv, snooze, play cards all while still being paid. My question is can I log this time as off duty?

if you log off duty , then you dont get paid , all on duty time is paid, myself i would buy a cheap computer, laptop , look for some sort of money making type thing and do something like that while waiting too get loaded, that way your making money twice :biggrin_25524:

Not necessarily true . I have been paid for overnight detention and took my 10 hour break while being paid . We have a shipper that doesn't load on weekends so I often get extra pay for loading Friday then taking my restart before leaving out Sunday .

Quick question, while I'm sitting in the lounge at a truck shop, do I need to log that as On-Duty Not Driving or am I able to log it as off-duty?

That's off duty. You're away from the truck and the mechanics have responsibility for it.

As a newbe; I took two part time jobs.
Job #1 is Tuesday & Wednesday running long hours but staying within CA state borders.

Job #2 is Monday & Thursday-Saturday working for a different employer. This job is HOB exempted not requiring logs.

Question: Do I need to maintain logs for all days even when HOB exempted because of my first job? I have been told that I should keep logs even on days off???

You are required to count all compensated hours as on duty hours even if it's flipping burgers .
    http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/documents/brochure-part-395.pdf
You know when you are required to log you have to show the number of hours worked in the past 7 days to show you won't exceed 70 hours in 8 days when driving.
