hello, I do have a question about dot . I have an audit coming up in about 10 days, and the officer that called me to set it up went over a few things and honestly i am a lil confused. I own 5 trucks and have my authority , I have all of the paperwork except for a lease agreement i was told i should have !!!! I guess I need my trucking company to lease my trucks from my personal self?????? and I also have a power only contract with a local shipper and the DOT officer told me I need a contract showing that the shipper , not my company is responsible for thier trailers, mantience, paperwork and etc.. Need advice please and thank you for taking the time to read this.........

My husband had a steering tire blowout. The company is making him bring it back to them because they get some kind of credit for it...Problem is companies do not want to load freight into a trailer with a dirty messed up tire...especially food companies, which one of them was...so the dispatcher told him to tie it to the back of the truck. He has already explained that can not be done, definite safety hazard, which in my opinion should not even have to be explained.. The tired is now in the truck with him because this company is so worried about a credit that they get!!!! This is the craziest thing we've ever heard!!! Isn't the tire being in the cab of the truck a safety hazard too? Needless to say, when he gets home, that will be his last trip for this company...

It's got a big hole in it from the blowout. The company he just picked up at refused to load the trailer with the tire back there, so he had to put it in the cab of the truck.

I've never had a problem tying something like that down on the catwalk. Just get some actual ratchet straps like they use for motorcycle tie downs and tie it down. Rope or bungies will not work.

    Meltom Thanks this.

yep,,, try putting a super single on the catwalk... just strap it down good.. All companies want their cores back. Image the lost credit to a company if they were not brought back.

DOT sees this all the time..

I don't buy that. We had a national account with....cooper I think and I never had to bring a core in. Never went to the office or even went into the state they were located in the whole time I worked there either. I know the accounts they have probably insist on bringing cores in, but just saying that all tire accounts don't require it. And we were paying $260 for brand new tires in '10, I dunno what the other tire companies charge but it can't be much cheaper than that.
