Need dot consultant? Dot advice

    can you tell me if I need a dot physical to obtain a cdl permit?

    Yes you do! No reason to get the permit if you are not suited to get your CDL> Get it? Good luck, It is a crazy industry but there is money to be made. And the view out of your office window is always changing!!

    No, you don't need a physical to get your permit or your cdl. There's not much point in getting the cdl if there are issues you know of that would prevent you passing a physical, though.

    I was also wondering if I get a dot physical in Virginia will that be good for any other states?

    Yes, the physical is not based on location.

    oh I know you need a dot physical to get your cdl money is a little tight thats why I was inquiring about the permit

    Nah, you only need your physical to use your cdl to work at a job. That has nothing to do with getting your cdl itself. Unless they changed that recently.

    Ok, lets see. I have a 20' box truck I have converted in a motorhome (Ca) Have class A non-cdl, green card (medical) log books Dot#. We sometimes take stuff to sell at Renaissance Fairs at which time we are involved in commerical enterprises. That I know. But what about the times I just want to use it as a motorhome? Like travel to other states to just visit? Do we have to treat it as a commerical vech all the time even though we only use it part time?

    No, personal use is exempt.

    Wrong . You need a medical card to obtain and renew a CDL .
