I swear that's the most you ever said to me and it does make awole lot of since.when it comes to bad companies you should tell drivers what to ecspect.at least that's what I would do.

I would think that whether he is qualified to be a driver or not would have a great deal to do with how close each incident was to the other.. With only 9 months of experience he is still learning. As trucking is a great deal like poker in that both can TAKE A FEW DAYS TO LEARN BUT A LIFETIME TO MASTER. I also did not read his post as blaming Swift for being let go. Yes the whole not enough traning would qualify as blaming or failure to take responsibility for ones actions. But aside from that he seems to have taken responsibility for his mistakes and was truly trying to supply a clear picture of why he was terminated... I think it is 1 of the main reasons few people give the whole story when creating a thread.. Because when they do like this OP they are persecuted or belittled by people..
Granted it is not the majority but comments like G,Anthony's " frankly I hope you do not get another job in the industry" serves NO purpose.. I for 1 at least commend the OP for giving a pretty clear picture of his situation. Now maybe he should accept more responsibility or not shift blame to swift.. But he seeking advice and I thought that is what these forums were about. Advice, knowledge, information etc etc..Chinatown Thanks this. -
I understand what you saying, but the quote from whoever, "One man's trash is another man's treasure" applies here.pattyj and Big Papaxx Thank this.

Thank You, Chinatown. Some of these other reply's have been less than helpful. I myself understand strong work ethic & prefer to be working. I have done many things, even burger flipping when I could find nothing else. It was the first job I've worked where I actually enjoyed myself and what I was doing. I ran heavy equipment in the Army and could see myself doing that as well but would rather be doing OTR. I rarely make the same mistake twice. From the mirror incident I learned better spatial awareness in regard to tandem placement. From the brake line incident I learned that getting out to look does no good if you don't change your perspective each time. Some things blend into their backgrounds until you look at them from a different angle. As for the deer & the hole issue you could be someone who has driven a million+ and I don't see how anyone could have avoided either. Trouble is, prospective companies aren't going to see the actual incident. All they will see is the numbers, 4 in 9 months. So, yes it will be difficult but I have no intention of giving up because aside from those it seems to be a life tailor-made for me.
Big Papaxx Thanks this. -
My last comment was not directed at the OP. It was directed at some of the comments made by others. With three preventable accidents in nine months I don't see any safety department taking a chance with this driver. How many insurance companies do you suppose would cover him now. If the driver does get another chance hopefully the company will do due diligence in his retraining. However I agree with G Anthony. I think the guy needs to find another vocation in life. Like I said in my first comment. I wish him well.

I just find it hard to understand what the purpose of making a comment like that serves... Especially when the thread was asking for experienced advice.. I guess it is a difference of how one defines advice.. Fortunately others have actually offered advice to the OP...

One thing I will not do is blow sunshine up someone's backside. That was my advice as an experienced truck driver. Sometimes the most kind thing you can do is advise a career change. It does not make you a boogie man by pointing this out. However giving false hope is so much worse on every level. How many Trucking companies out there will allow you three preventables in a nine month period. Not very many in fact none i' ve ever been employed by. It shows just how desperate Swift is for drivers that they put up with this. A company might allow three in maybe ten years! But in nine months? No! Now your trying to say another company will just wink at this and just hire him? Maybe before CSA he might have had a chance.
I think the main question is simply is this driver salvageable? I wish I could watch him drive from a trainer standpoint. Mentor him and see if his problem is a lack of good training or is it something deeper. I do hope he can get another chance and get a quality retraining. I do wish him well. -
OP. Just apply everywhere and find out who will hire you. I have never been employed by a mega carrier.
Try the local path with shorter vehicles to get more experience before going back into OTR. Good luck.Bob Dobalina Thanks this.
