The more you build up that catwalk the more likely you are to get the corner of the trailer to make contact in a turn on an incline

I have a custom built trailer. Had to get higher 5th wheel plate legs installed to prevent just that

Not a very good pic but it was pretty level and I may have a different catwalk?
I also wrapped mine to match the trailer
4 beers and a couple bucks worth of vinyl

Notching is what a lot of the big companies do. Ozark did it. Looks crappy depending on who’s doing the cutting.

the upfitter hacked big holes in the stock catwalk. I shaved the apu mounts down a bit and eventually the mounts rubbed through the new catwalk. Bed liner over everything took care of that issue.

your only option is to drill holes in the frame. The back of the apu has bolt slots.

    I appreciate all the input.

One thing I didn’t consider with fabbing a mount, that CAXPT mentioned, is rubber isolators. I reckon an APU solid mounted to the frame would drive me a bit mad at night.

Edit: that being said, I just looked and didn’t notice any rubber on my existing mounts.

Those clamps are solid mount to the frame. If you build a frame around it be prepared, any repair is going to be mor difficult. They already suck to work on, building a frame may require removal of the apu to replace the starter.

The ones @kylefitzy has are OEM Thermoking. Expensive little buggers. These are the same used by the company I mentioned. Its a very solid mount. Any noise or vibration would be from the unit or housing itself. The mount is solid.

I stand corrected then. The system I was looking at had those external mounts that use a bar that runs along the frame, and that had rubber isolator material to put between the bar and the frame. But that's a universal mounting system and it probably had the rubber isolators to help keep it from rusting the frame. :)

    cke Thanks this.
